I’ve never had that problem. I’m pretty sure whether or not you get charged customs is up to the way the sender ships the package.
If the package is marked as a low value or a gift you will get charged little or no customs.
I know one time I was charged $11 when a package was sent through USPS on a cheap package and many other times I’ve not been charged anything on stuff even more expensive.
I know there’s more to determining how customs fees are calculated besides that but I don’t really know the exacts of it all.
