# 1989 Macintosh Portable & 1991 Macintosh powerbook

I just got a 1989 Mac portable from my grandfather that has been in his attic and it looks brand new with case and manual and a 1991 powerbook in the same shape. does anyone know if i could make any money off these or are they just scrap?

You can usually use this site to find forums dedicated to those items, or you can always try ebay, with a $0.99 starting price and no reserve to find out what they are actually worth in today’s market.
You’d be surprised at what people are collecting these days. There’s a bunch of forums dedicated to old 3DFX graphics cards, and I’ve gotten good money out of a couple old ones I had lying around.

I have checked ebay and there are none on there. There is a photo of the 1989 portable going for 30$ and a manual for the 1991 powerbook going for 40.00. Thats the only prices i have found

Vintage Macs tend to fetch premiums if they are good condition.

You are probably not going to get rich off it, but someone might want it for $20-100, which is why ebay with a low starting price and no reserve, or a forum specific to old Macs would be best to find someone. Pictures help as well.

This is excellent advice. Ebay will be hit or miss and unless you’re in a rush…troll a few forums. There are some really wacky mac people out there and they are often cult like. Find the needle in the haystack and you’ll profit more. 🙂

I’ve sold quite a few laptops on specific forums and they get a great bang for the buck.
Hell my old iBook sold for $60 on eBay, but I was in a pinch for cash that was a 300mhz, 256mb ram, 6gb hdd, and wifi built in. I slapped osx in their. that’s what’s sold it…
