# 1997 DSM CEL diagnosis

A friend of mine who isn’t too car literate is having a problem with his CEL coming on and needs it inspected. I remember in my old dodge you could turn the key on and off 3 times and it would flash the CEL “X” amount of times to give you the code number to ID the problem area.

Is there a way to do this on a DSM? If so and I get the code, do any of you DSM guys have a book that outlines the trouble codes?

This is a 4 banger FWD, NA by the way.

theres a way to pull codes hooking an ohm meter to the plug and you read the sweeps. tell him get a chiltons it will give you instructions and what everything means

Or he could take it to autozone to get the code read.

I’m guessing O2 sensor. Those cars like to go through them for some reason.

went to autozone. Turns out it was the gas cap.
