> One thing to consider with regards to the cost of replacement is that some cars have a much more complicated “B+ cable” or “positive battery cable”. It’s not necessarily just one cable going from the battery to the starter etc. I have not replaced or dealt with the cables on S40s but I do remember replacing the B+ cables on S70s. These ran from the battery terminal through the body harness and into the engine fuse box. The routing and removal of the old wiring made this a time consuming repair. Is the car at the Volvo dealership in Williamsville?

This guy know his stuff…

What does that clutch fuck up have to do with a Volvo battery cable?

helping friends

it might sound like a good idea, until you accidentally do more damage than good.

Gotcha. There are certainly some lessons to be learned but it’s all about integrity in the end. Anyone can screw you over, shop or individual. There’s a leap of faith to some degree whenever you let someone fix anything, auto or not.

Nice link boardjunky4:) That thought actually had crossed my mind…

Thanks to all for the replies. In the end the car went to another shop as they were given a much cheaper quote. I told her that she’d be better off paying a few bucks for an insured place to do this job. Being electrical related, who knows what else could be wrong. My offer was simply one of replacing the cable and was given since she was a bit frantic about what to do, but anything above and beyond the cable replacement would be out of my control…and that quite honestly if I did it I couldn’t guarantee anything.
