Bike I am buying Monday… I was riding it around pretty slow last night, nothing too spectacular. I noticed after it had been idling for a bit that it got HOT, up around 250 degrees. When I turned it off a puff of steam came out from the front of the bike. I know the bike has been sitting for a LONG time (a whole season), so I know it needs the fluids changed and the coolant flushed most likely. Aside from that, i’m just wondering if there is anything else that might be wrong or that I might be overlooking? The bike ran great so I don’t think it’s a headgasket or anything major. Thanks. ---

check the fan… i had that problem with my R6… fan wasnt working all the time and while its moving it was ok but once i was stopped at a light or anything it would start to overheat like that. And if the temp keeps rising like that esp over 220 i would just turn it off. ---

check the thermostat… it may be stuck closed. ---

you’ll know just turn the key to the ON position and you should be able to hear it going … if not check the conection on the wires ---

my fan would kick on at 235 or somthing crazy. tstat and fluids ---

My neighbor’s lawn care guy got killed on his HD this year, with his wife and family driving behind him. I feel terrible, he was cool as hell too. Always was talkin about cars and bikes. Really nice guy. So I guess Ryan is going to check out the fan issue tonight. If it’s not that I will flush the coolant and change the T-stat and see if that fixes it. ---

Yo chris bikes will go up VERY high in temp when your doin under 20 mph or just sitting aroud with them running, my bike will get to 240 degrees sitting around before the fan will turn on and knock it down to 200 degrees, it pisses me off im gonna mod the shit to have a fans o i can flip it on at 220 degrees because it pisses me off getting so hot i about burn my legs off… but every bike i rode (i rode liek 6-7) gets hot sitting around, thats just how bikes are… if it actually got to 250 thats not good, it shouljd get to 220-240 then the fan should kick on and lower the temps somewhat or stablize them at least… I would change the coolant for sure and like travis said change the TS because the bike has some miles on it plus been sitting etc etc good luck on the bike dude ! and yea drinking + driving = soooo bad but drinking + riding you can’t possibly be serious [Next page](https://forums.speedlife.net/t/2001-gsxr-600-running-hot-at-idle/239605.md?page=2)
