i think the original conversation (note i didn’t say argument) was the cobalts FI bottom end vs a honda’s bottom end for the ability to add FI.

> im not bragging im just trying not to blow domestics out of the water. But since you bring it up. You put a Turbo on a stock LS B18 and you can hold 20 psi. “Yes I said 20 psi, your right your pushing it but its been done. Without blowing up, Many times!” And with that your running 12’s. You make a dodge, chevy, ford 4 cyl. do that Then ill stop talking

lol i guess you never herd of the ford cosworth sp?

> i never said it wasn’t i wasn’t directing that at you i was directing it at him and his k20 swap idea. in fact i dont’ even know what we’re talking about anymore i think if brads correct on those numbers then that motor is a little weak, if it’s 400 for the rods and xxx for the crank that’s a little bit better. at the same time i’ve seen honda rods you won’t make 400 on a stock bottom end for very long

brad ha sthe book at home on how to build the original ECOTEC drag motor that stop asses when it first come to the strip. It has since been changed of course to get bigger numbers but it wa steh original. It even has the part number for the stuff you need.

The number he stated are what the stock failed at initally. You have read the build up process of how they figured all that shit out. I think they used a 2.2 took it down to a 2.0 and make those numbers with like 30% stock parts still on the engine when it hit the numbers of 800 or 900 hp. Its been a while since I have read it over. So forgive me I know some of the info isn’t totally correct but that is the just of the information he has form the horses mouth so to speak.

my only point was his statement about it being a nice car to work with but the rods failng at 280hp, to me “nice car to work with” and “2xx wheel hp” isn’t really something to be proud of, dont’ get me wrong i’ve seen the writup on the ecotec but if that’s where he’s quoting stuff from then i doubt they used the same rods in this motor

its all speculation too… because

1.) the Cobalt SS isnt out yet
2.) Since its not out, people havent been able to mod them yet
3.) Since theyre not out, no one has blown one up yet either

well that totally answers every question i had in this thread, so no one knows the actual limits of the bottom end - good thoguht i was mising somethign

agreed thats where I was going with it being in the orginal motor. Everything they learn in the racing shit they eventually apply some how if it is isn’t a major cost factor. If they can strenthen the rods with out costing a shit load of money I;m sure they have or already did it. 🙂

right it is speculation on how well the bottom will hold up based on what the current motor motor being used does. I can;t see them cheeping out on the new motor that has FI if the NA version has a better bottom end.

Does that make sense what I just tried to say?

right I;m just saying they aren;t gonig to go from a 400 hp crank to say a 275 or 300 hp, when they alreay have the 400 and it isn;t costing them anymore and they are upping the HP perfomance of a motor.

GM doesnt do that

they didnt just slap a SC onto the 3.8 for the Grand Prix, and call it a day.

the bottom end, and heads are different from a Grand Prix GT to a GTP.

Ford just didnt slap an SC on a stock 4.6 4v, and call it a day… that whole engine is diff… dunno where you get off with your info, but it surely is the furthest thing from the truth

Ya I would like to Quote from the ECOTEC handbook but I sold both of them… But ya they did run the 2.0 and ran nitrous until something broke… rods were the first to go. But about the crank I thought it was 400HP… I will search and find that info on the rest of them motor… Well Nice Topic!! and its not getting out of Hand WAY TO GO BLUE4…
