My step mom has a 2005 Mustang, 40K miles. She was driving down the road when the car started to lose power. She said she pushed the throttle down but nothing happened. She pulled over, put the car in park and checked the battery cables, both were tight. She said the car didn’t start up right away. She pushed the car back and forth a little, after which it started and she hasn’t had the problem since. She said this has happened once before too, last year. It happened roughly at the same elapsed mileage point, around 25 miles into the drive.
Any ideas? TPS is my first thought?

The only thing I can think of is that the 05’s had issues with the fuel pumps. The issue was addressed by 2006. There is a TSB 06-9-9 that only applied to the 2005 models, the pumps would develop air bubbles which would result in hesitation when accelerating and loss of power. I don’t know if that is it for sure, but it may be a place to start.

What is TSB 06-9-9? Is that a recall?

How much? The car should still be under warranty at 40K miles right?

Technical Service Bulliten…basically it is a bulletin issued to an auto dealer by the manufacturer detailing a fix for a known concern. The bulletin is for informational purposes only. It is not a recall, therefore you still may have to pay and the dealer does not need to inform you of the issue. It is for their convenience. I have my stock sending unit from my 06 with 30k on it that I would sell for $60. The parts in your car may still be under warenty.

The TSB for the aluminum oxide that bubbled through my hood, once the car was out of the 3 year/36k warenty, and wasn’t addressed is proof that TSB are NOT taken care of no matter what
