# 2013/2014 Snowmobile Season

Just put in maybe 50 or so miles. Concrete washboards in the fields, not much better in the woods. Smoothest part of the ride was up the trailer. Oh, and left my fuckin phone at Schunks Grille in east Eden and had to go 30 minutes back through the shit to get it. Fun…WOW!

No way anyone will be open. Pioneer is closing at noon today, Boston at midnight, Colden and Marilla Saturday morning. I’m sure Hamburg will post an update sometime this morning saying the same thing. The thin spots will never hold up to high 40’s and rain.

put on a good 200 miles last night. started in clarence and headed to The Valley and back. launched my gf off on the way back in the middle of a field after stopping to get gas at the only gas station that was open after some road riding. those water holes suck with someone on the back trying to take one of the alternate routes around the main pond lol.
finally got home at 4 am. what a long ass night.
trails were hammered on the way back. pretty decent on the way down though

Hit up wing night at Wales Center Hotel on Wednesday and rode just under 100 miles that night (GPS graph). For anyone interested, its every Wed night starts at 8, $5 all you can eat and $2 Rolling Rock bottles. Hadn’t been there in a while but wings were top notch.
Did another 65 miles last night but trails were pretty sad in Marilla/Wales by midnight, stopped at Kodiak Jacks for a few drinks.

**Folsom Trailblazers Snowmobile Club**
_I know this is long. But READ CAREFULLY.
This past week Folsom’s trails were closed and obviously still remain closed. The reason for this was the obvious lack of snow. Most of our neighboring clubs, Genesee Sno Packers, Tri County Drift Hoppers and Oatka trails were also closed due to the lack of snow. I would like to thank those that did not ride on our trails and our neighboring clubs trails while they were closed. Unfortunately there were a few disrespectful people (nicest thing I could come up with) who chose to go out and ride our trail system while doing so with no respect to our landowners, our club or for any other snowmobiler. If for some reason these people were unaware that the trails were closed it should have become quickly obvious to them that there was not enough snow and in fact they were riding on dirt. This past Friday I received a call from a very irritated (to put it mildly) landowner. This landowner owns a farm and has let our club have the privilege of letting us use his families land to run our snowmobile trails on. This landowner is also right in the middle of our trail system and accounts for more than 12 miles of our trail system. This landowner is also one of our trail bosses and like the rest of us volunteers his time without any financial or personal benefit. The reason he called and was upset was because even though there was obviously not enough snow and the trails were closed there were still people riding on his land ruining his crops. On top of this while he was out spreading manure in one of his fields Friday (not on the snowmobile trail as he would never do that as he is a snowmobiler and trail boss, although he might now) a group of snowmobilers rode through his property on dirt over his crops and one of them flips him off. What a really nice way to show your appreciation to a landowner. Well now we have a MAJOR situation. As of right now I am not sure this landowner is going to continue to let us ride on his land. If we are not allowed to use this landowners land we will not be able to open our trail system as there is no other way around it. This was not the only call I received. I received several other calls where people were riding off of the marked trail. It seems like we go through this ever year. There is a lot of work that goes into keeping the trails open without the added work of dealing with problems caused by a few people who have no respect for anyone but themselves. I can tell you the few of us that work so hard to keep the trails open are becoming more and more tired of dealing with these issues. I have heard a few comments like why doesn’t our club put up gates. Besides the obvious expense there are so many different trail heads that it would be impossible to do that, also these few people will either go around it or cut it open like they did on Holland’s trail earlier in the year. The same goes for putting signs up that state trails are closed, we have so many spots that would need them and a volunteer group who is already burnt out that this is not feasible. I think it is time for snowmobilers to be responsible for themselves. We should not have to babysit everyone, snowmobilers should check first to see if trails are open. With almost everyone having access to the internet or knowing someone who does this is the quickest and easiest way to keep updated on what’s going on. Our club and all of our area clubs do a great job of updating their web sites letting people know if trails are open + what the conditions are. Like I said at this time if we do get snow I am not sure Folsom Trailblazers will be able to open our trails. We will keep you posted as to any new developments. A. Not apart of any club
B. Probably not registered
C. Has no insurance
D. From out of town
I hate seeing this, but unfortunately I don’t see a solution other than the owners closing down their portions of trails and even then these people will just go ride somewhere else. I just don’t understand why people have to be so stupid?

I doubt they’re from out of town because people don’t trailer in to ride dirt trails. More likely they’re people like your asshole buddy on facebook who say “well I’m home this weekend and it’s the only time I get to ride so fuck the clubs, I’m riding”.

I’ve definitely run into random people that have that mentality.
Gates clearly aren’t going to work. I think trail cam’s are probably a good bet but that also involves spending additional money.

The only thing that’s going to work is real enforcement. Cuomo wants to grandstand and do his little photo op on a snowmobile and talk big about how he wants to expand NY snowmobiling. How about clearing some state police time to actually go out and do some trail enforcement? If they had put up checkpoints at a few key trail intersections on Saturday when everything had just closed down they would have caught a ton of people riding closed trails. If you’re out there impounding some sleds for a few weeks in a row and hitting the owners with some criminal trespass charges the word would get out fast that riding closed trails isn’t going to be tolerated. It’s a small minority that are causing the problems so some harsh enforcement would clear this up quickly.

While I agree, I think the impound should be for the season. If its past a certain point in the season, the entire following year as well. Sadly this is s serious enough problem that could shut down the sport altogether, at least in our region.

Folsom and Colden have opened. Both said conditions are limited with very frozen ground and icy conditions in places.
Hoping by the weekend conditions improve with the light snow in the forecast every day allowing a few more clubs to open up. Colden and Folsom doesn’t make for much of a ride with Marilla, Pioneer or Tri County open too.
