We did a little over 100 miles around Sodus Bay/Chimney Bluffs/rt 104. Best conditions we’ve seen this year, lots of fast flat trails though the apple orchards and vineyards and really hauled some ass out on the ice of Sodus Bay. Will snag the GPS map from my buddy tomorrow when he gets to the office.

I’m probably going to cruise out to Byrncliff tomorrow night after work for a dinner with my brother and sister in law. I heard the trails are pretty nice with the extra snow we have been getting everyday.

Colden posted that the trails were just terrible yesterday because of the traffic from the poker run but they’ve been out grooming last night and today and have upgraded to status “good”.
Tonight will be a night of rest, tomorrow is looking like it might be too cold even for me.

I saw that Jay, I’m hoping the few inches last night will have helped, but it seems like anytime we get a measurable snow, the wind is right there with it to blow it all off the trail. I’ll be riding Folsom trails and I know they had their Dice run yesterday too. I guess I will find out.

The dice run and poker run were the reason we loaded up and went to Sodus. I HATE riding when there are tons of people out. At least it’s not the crowd of knuckle dragging bar hoppers that the Shred and Regan event attracts.

Just by looking outside here (Webster) I’d imagine our trails are ruined. There’s like 2-3 ft snow drifts and grass showing everywhere now. 35+ mph wind gusts.
I’d imagine it’s similar down at Byrncliff and everywhere south of where you guys are.

I’m to the point this season that if the trails are open, I’m going to give it a whirl. I can’t sit around waiting for perfect trails otherwise I won’t get over 100 miles this season. I know that it was windy up in the northtowns more than the southtowns the past few days.

I know what you mean but I’m saying I see a lot of clubs closing their trails today.

Really depends on how much traffic they got this weekend before the wind picked up. If the sleds (or better yet groomers then sleds) were able to get out and pack down a base and push some banks up to the edges they could be in good shape today. The wind blown snow fills in that area between the banks giving the sleds another layer to pack down.

My brother told me he got about 3-4 inches last nigth of fresh powder. Not too much wind blown either, so it should help if there is a good amount of traffic. I would think with as cold as it is, it might be harder for the trails to get torn up. Not saying the idiots who slide through turns and pin it aren’t going to leave their mark, but there certainly is no soft ground/open water holes to worry about.

We crossed one small ditch yesterday that had little water in it. I almost stopped to take a picture because I was so confused as to how it existed after the temps we’ve had.

Boston and Colden was decent on Saturday and totally hammered yesterday. They have enough snow to groom (except for a few open fields), so if they groomers are out there today they should be able to get it into OK shape.

Went out this morning at around 12:30. Boston, Colden, Pioneer WHIPPED. We were out until about 3:30 and didn’t see any groomers. The poker run really killed the trails. We went out Sunday morning at about 3am and the trails were awesome. The woods were huge moguls, and the fields were hit or miss. Fields on top of the hills were good because of the snow drifting, fields in the lower areas around Springville way were awful, thin and rocky. The Boston powerline was also hit or miss, some areas flat and fast, others thin, rocky, and/or muddy. I’m hoping Colden grooms/we get some more snow. We may go out again early tomorrow morning (gotta love being night shift workers)

Got out last night and rode from 6-10 pm, stopping at the Valley in Holland for wing night. Trails weren’t as bad as I thought they would be. The woods were rough with moguls, but other than that, I really enjoyed the ride. Fairly smooth through the cornfields as well. Seemed like the wind kind of filled them in as I was told. It looks like we might be in for some sleet/freezing rain this weekend so I’m glad I at least got out last night before the trails deteriorate more.

how was the wind chill? brutal or managable?

There wasn’t really any wind down there last night. I really layered up so it wasn’t bad, but I expected more of a wind chill than there was. I think the temp was down to about -8 when I finished for the night. Anytime out there with out gloves was brutal, but the riding was actually pretty nice.
