**Chevrolet Colorado**

> Chevrolet unveiled the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, which will redefine the midsize truck and offer real truck capability and versatility to customers who don’t require a full-size truck.
>
> The new Colorado is built with the DNA of a true Chevy truck, expected to deliver class-leading power, payload and trailering ratings. Colorado goes on sale in fall 2014 as a 2015 model.
>
> “Our strategy is simple: meet the needs of the broadest possible customer base, and let them choose precisely the right truck to meet their needs,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors executive vice president and president of GM North America. “The all-new Colorado benefits from the solid foundation established by the Silverado, and it reinvents the midsize truck while reinvigorating the segment at the same time.”
>
> The new Colorado was developed for the North American truck customer, with distinctive design, comfort and connectivity features, including segment firsts such as available forward collision alert and lane departure warning.
>
> Chevrolet expects Colorado to be the most powerful truck in the segment, allowing owners to haul and tow more. A 2.5L I-4 is standard, and a 3.6L V-6 is available. Each engine is tuned, tested and validated for truck use, and each features direct injection and variable valve timing to make the most of power and efficiency. Each is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.
>
> When properly equipped, the Chevrolet Colorado is expected to offer class leading payload capacity and trailering capacity of more than 6,700 pounds (3,039 kg). That is more than enough capability to throw a weekend’s worth of camping gear in the bed and tow a boat to a favorite lake.
>
> Colorado will also offer the segment’s only diesel engine in its second year - a proven Duramax 2.8L I-4 turbodiesel already offered in global markets. The diesel engine will expand Colorado’s powertrain lineup to cover the broadest range of needs.
>
> “We designed the Colorado to be the most versatile and most capable in its segment, bar none,” said Jeff Luke, executive engineer, GM Trucks. “Not everyone needs full-size capability, but they still deserve the strength and true-truck attributes that come in larger models. The Colorado delivers capability with confidence - and a fun-to-drive spirit that complements active lifestyles.”
>
> **Designed with a zeal for adventure**
>
> The Colorado’s North American design is unique, with a confident stance and a sporty demeanor. Taller bedsides, for example, are exclusive to North America and match the aggressive, raked belt line of the cab, creating a distinctive proportion that reinforces the truck’s athleticism while better securing items stored in the bed.
>
> The 2015 Colorado’s configurations are an extended cab model with a 6-foot bed, a crew cab with a 5-foot bed and a crew cab with a 6-foot bed. With the tailgate down, the 6-foot bed allows hauling of 8-foot-long items.
>
> “The new Colorado’s design brings a youthful breath of fresh air to the midsize truck segment and puts a progressive spin on Chevrolet’s true-truck styling,” said Ken Parkinson, executive director of Chevrolet Design. “It’s like the younger, more eager brother of the Silverado - a Chevy truck through and through, with great zeal and a spirit of adventure.”
>
> WT, LT and Z71 trims are available, all in 2WD or 4WD. The off-road-inspired Z71 is the brawniest of the bunch. It also features a gunmetal grille surround - a change from the chrome standard on the other models - projector headlamps and unique 17-inch aluminum wheels.
>
> The Chevy Colorado features triple-sealed doors inlaid in the body sides, like the 2014 Silverado, for improved aerodynamic performance and a quieter interior.
>
> To help keep overall mass down and improve the front-to-rear weight balance, the Colorado features a segment-first aluminum hood. It also features the segment’s only active aero grille shutters, which close at certain highway speeds to enhance aerodynamics.
>
> And because it’s a true Chevy truck, the Colorado leaves nothing on the table when it comes to innovative solutions for hauling and accessing cargo:
>
> -Standard CornerStep rear bumper design pioneered on the 2014 Silverado
> -Available EZ Lift-and-Lower tailgate that uses an internal torsion bar to make raising the tailgate easier with one hand, and a damper for more-controlled lowering
> -Standard two-tier loading that allows a platform to effectively split the bed into upper and lower sections, making it easier to haul, store and conceal items such as tools
> -Thirteen standard tie-down locations throughout the bed for use with available, movable cargo tie-down rings
> -Standard bed rail and tailgate protectors
> -Available factory-installed spray-in bed liner.
>
> **An interior for work, recreation and everyday comfort**
>
> Blending cues from Silverado with a style all its own, the interior of the 2015 Colorado is designed to be comfortable, is cleverly equipped and well connected. A bold, upright instrument panel with large instruments and a central driver information center is similar to Silverado, while featuring a center console with a floor-mounted shifter similar to those found in midsize cars and crossovers.
>
> Colorado cabin designers paid exceptional attention to detail and premium appointments, including a sculpted headliner that enhances headroom, halo lighting on key controls for easier view and an open area at the front of the center console for easier phone charging. The Z71 model features exclusive color and trim details, including embossed seatbacks and contrast stitching.
>
> “We took the best attributes of full-size trucks and midsize cars to develop a passenger space that delivers a balance of unmatched functionality and comfort,” said Parkinson. “It’s designed to be as useful as possible, with storage compartments and clever features throughout, for owners who will use the Colorado as their daily driver and for weekend getaways.”
>
> Interior details include:
>
> -Sculpted door panels that make it easier to enter/exit the vehicle
> -Upper-instrument panel storage bin (when not equipped with the uplevel audio system) and large glove box
> -Standard center console with room to store a tablet
> -Rear under-seat storage.
>
> Dual-firmness foam helps Colorado’s seats wear for long-haul comfort with high-wear, stain-resistant cloth seating trim. Leather-appointed seating is available.
>
> **Connectivity, control and safety technologies enhance Colorado’s driving experience**
>
> The new Chevy Colorado’s technologies are aimed at complementing owners’ lifestyles with connectivity and other features that support their daily and recreational lives - and help keep them safe, including:
>
> -Eight-inch diagonal color touch screen (LT, Z71) and multiple USB drives
> -A 3.4-inch diagonal driver information screen in the instrument cluster
> -Available next-generation OnStar and MyLink enhancements with gesture recognition and natural language voice recognition
> -Available navigation
>
> Standard and available features designed to keep the Colorado’s occupants safe before, during and after a crash include:
>
> -Six standard air bags, including head side curtain air bags designed to help keep occupants from being ejected in a crash
> -Large rearview mirrors and standard rear-vision camera system for greater visibility
> -Available segment-first application of forward collision alert
> -Available segment-first application of lane departure warning
> -Standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation, trailer sway control, hill start assist and hill descent control (Z71).

> **Chevy truck DNA supports leading capabilities**
>
> The Colorado delivers the capability expected of a Chevy truck - including segment-leading payload and trailering. Like the Silverado, the Colorado has a fully boxed perimeter frame, which provides the strength to support its capabilities, as well as a confident, smooth and quiet ride.
>
> A coil-over-type front suspension features aluminum knuckles that are low in mass and high in strength, contributing to a more responsive, immediate feel to driver inputs, as well as efficiency. Colorado also features the segment’s first application of electric power steering, which enhances efficiency by avoiding the energy used by what conventionally is an engine-driven feature.
>
> The Chevy Colorado has a short turning radius of about 41 feet (12.5 meters), enabling easier turning in tight areas such as city streets or backing a trailer into a camping spot.
>
> Four-wheel disc brakes, with four-piston front calipers, are standard and feature Duralife™ brake rotors - also pioneered on the 2014 Silverado. They offer up to double the service life, which can save money on maintenance.
>
> Another Chevy truck feature offered on the Colorado is the G80 automatic locking rear differential. Introduced by Chevy more than 40 years ago, it gives drivers a traction advantage when needed. It is standard on Z71 and available on WT and LT.
>
> **Truck-tuned powertrains designed for work, efficiency**
>
> The 2.5L and 3.6L engines offered in the Colorado are based on proven designs found in other Chevrolet vehicles, but tuned uniquely for truck duty - including more torque at lower rpm - for a more confident feeling of power when the Colorado is loaded or pulling a trailer.
>
> The 2.5L four is estimated at 193 horsepower (146 kW) and 184 lb-ft of torque (253 Nm), with approximately 90 percent of the peak torque available from 2,000 rpm to 6,200 rpm. The 3.6L engine is estimated at 302 horsepower (224 kW) and 270 lb-ft of torque (366 Nm). SAE certification of the power ratings is pending.
>
> Aluminum blocks and forged-steel crankshafts, along with dual-overhead camshafts with variable valve timing, direct injection and jet-spray piston cooling are features shared on both engines. A number of extended-life components can help reduce maintenance intervals and reduce the cost of ownership.
>
> All models are matched with a six-speed automatic that complements the truck-tuned engines with features that make hauling and trailering easier and more comfortable, including auto grade braking and a tow/haul mode.
>
> Chevrolet will continue to work on and develop the Colorado until the start of production in 2014.

**First Look: 2015 Chevrolet Colorado**
**Chevy Breathes Life Into The Midsize Truck Segment**

> How long has it been since we have seen a new – really new – compact/midsize truck enter the market? Most of them haven’t undergone huge changes since around 2004. In fact, the biggest change in the category is how small it has become.
>
> There were once 11 compact trucks sold in the U.S. As of 2014, that number is down to two. All the while, we have seen global pickups that we can’t get in the U.S.: the Volkswagen Amarok, global Ford Ranger, and global Colorado being just a few of the standouts. However, that is soon going to change, as Chevrolet is bringing a version of its global Colorado to the United States and Canada for the 2015 model year, going on sale in fall 2014.
>
> Instead of seeing this as a rehashed truck from another market, though, it’s more accurate to look at it as a scaled-down Silverado, as few of the chassis components are shared with the global truck. The frame is about 40 percent lighter than the global Colorado’s frame; the new unit is fully boxed and uses liberal amounts of high-strength steel. Comparing crew cab to crew cab, the Colorado is 900 pounds lighter, 5 inches narrower, 3 inches lower, and 16 inches shorter than the Silverado. The Colorado will use a coilover front and leaf-spring rear, and Duralife disc brakes with ABS. It will have EPS and an impressive 41-foot turning radius.
>
> The truck will come as an extended cab or crew cab, with a 6-foot bed behind the extended cab and a choice of 5- or 6-foot bed behind the crew cab. And for people who lament the loss of the regular-cab model, we hear there will be a rear-seat delete option on the extended cab. Trim levels will be the WT, LT, and Z71, with RWD or 4WD with a rear locker. In the past, the Z71 had been a suspension package available on a variety of trims; for 2015, it will be its own model. As with the Silverado, the doors are inlaid and triple-sealed. Six airbags and a rearview camera will be standard, and forward collision alert will be available. Z71s will come with StabiliTrak, trailer sway control, hillstart assist, and hill descent control.
>
> At launch, there will be two engines powering the Colorado – a 2.5-liter I-4, with an estimated 193 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.6-liter V-6, with an estimated 302 hp and 270 lb-ft. We have seen these engines in other GM products (Impala, Malibu, Equinox), but they have been re-tuned here for truck applications, with more bottom-end torque. Both have direct injection and variable valve timing, and both will be backed by a six-speed automatic. Chevrolet hasn’t announced fuel economy estimates yet, but the truck will use active aero grille shutters, which will help improve mpg numbers.
>
> There will be a third engine added to the options list for the 2016 model year: a 2.8-liter Duramax I-4. Chevrolet hasn’t announced power numbers for this yet, but in the global truck, it produces 197 hp and 369 lb-ft. However, it’s likely that the diesel’s hp and torque will be slightly lower here, as emissions requirements are tougher in the U.S. than in the rest of the world and use of aftertreatment can reduce power. That torque number is only slightly lower than that of GM’s new EcoTec3 5.3-liter V-8, while potentially offering significantly better fuel economy. The engineers at Chevrolet also told us that the American-market version of this engine will be much quieter than the global unit. It will use Diesel Exhaust Fluid, with its refill point behind the fuel door. Unless one of the other manufacturers pulls off a big surprise in the next year, the Colorado will be the first midsize truck sold in the U.S. with a diesel engine.
>
> The interior is a huge step up from the previous Colorado, using many of the features that are a part of the new Silverado’s cabin. There is a driver information screen within the gauge cluster, an 8-inch color touch screen in the center stack (optional on WT), plus OnStar, MyLink, and navigation will be offered. The shifter is floor-mounted. Seats will be stain-resistant cloth or leather.
>
> As you can see here, the new midsize’s appearance is much more global Colorado than it is little Silverado. But there were some changes, including a new front end and higher bedsides. And Chevrolet’s capability goals, both lofty and reachable, would align it more with the Silverado. The idea is that this truck will have best-in-class hp, payload, and towing capacity. GM hasn’t announced payload capacity, but it expects a 6700-lb towing capacity at launch (and higher with the diesel). It will also be the first in its segment to offer a trailer brake controller. The company’s CornerStep rear bumper and 13 tiedown locations are standard, and the EZ Lift-and-Lower tailgate and spray-in bedliner are options.
>
> There are a few factors that will be key to the Colorado’s success. The first is price. If the truck comes in at a price that is lower enough than the Silverado’s, it should do well. The challenge will be the price of the diesel in the Colorado. However, if GM is correct in its bet that midsize trucks cater to a different buyer than full-size trucks, and that there is a bigger market for smaller trucks than is being served at the moment, the Colorado could bring people back to this segment. It could also mean buyers would be willing to pay more for a well-optioned Colorado than they would for an entry-level Silverado. Not everyone has the space to park a ½-ton truck or the desire to drive in the city in one. Those buyers will soon have a new option to consider, and this truck has a lot of potential. And who knows? If the Colorado sells well here, maybe Ford and Volkswagen will bring their trucks to the U.S. too.

> **2015 Chevrolet Colorado: GM Gets Back in the (Relatively) Small Pickup Game**
>
> > While the market for full-size pickup trucks keeps expanding, sales of smaller pickups have been steadily contracting and now account for only 280,000 units annually. The Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma have been the only constants, but they’re about to be rejoined by the new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. Launching at the Los Angeles auto show, the Colorado is of course closely related to the global truck that’s already on sale in the rest of the world. (The GMC Canyon sister truck is on the way, too, but will debut at a later time. Our guess: January in Detroit.)
>
> > But our truck won’t be exactly like the Colorado available elsewhere since 2012, with the most noticeable differences being up front, in the form of reshaped headlamps, new fog-lamp surrounds, a new grille, and more. The swept-back fascia is also a major departure from the blocky design of the new Silverado, a decision made, we imagine, to provide tangible differentiation among the high-end Colorados and low-end Silverados whose prices will overlap. The look falls more in line with the sedan and SUV portions of Chevy’s lineup, which the brand hopes will raise its profile among buyers of those vehicles. Those shoppers will appreciate this truck’s tidier dimensions; it’s five inches narrower, three inches lower, and 900 pounds lighter than the comparo-winning Silverado. So it’s smaller if not truly small.
>
> > Chevy tells us that the roof stamping is the only major exterior component shared with the global version, while a new boxed and hydroformed frame is closely related to the Silverado’s and increases structural rigidity and improves crash performance versus the global Colorado. Inside, the instrument panel and dashboard have been completely redone and in higher trim levels will feature a touch screen running Chevy’s MyLink software. The Colorado and Canyon will be assembled in Wentzville, Missouri, alongside the Chevy Express and GMC Savana vans that will continue to be built in the facility.
>
> > Two engines will be available when the Colorado goes on sale late next year. An all-aluminum 2.5-liter four with 193 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque is standard. For those seeking more power or 6700 pounds of towing capacity—the base tow rating remains a secret—Chevy will offer a 3.6-liter DOHC V-6 with 302 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Both engines will come hooked to a six-speed automatic and will have optional four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case. There will be disc brakes at every corner with four-piston calipers borrowed from the Silverado clamping onto the front rotors.
>
> > In late summer or the early fall of 2015, the second-year 2016 Colorado will offer a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel. Power numbers aren’t yet available for the cleaner, urea-injected U.S. version of this engine, but the 2.8-liter makes 180 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque in the rest of the world. We were told, however, to expect similar numbers.
>
> > The Colorado won’t be available as a regular cab, offering only a Crew Cab with four full doors, or an Extended Cab with rear-hinged rear doors. Crew Cab versions will be fitted with either five-foot or 6.1-foot beds; opt for the Extended Cab and you get the 6.1-foot bed. Both beds come with a damped tailgate. Three trim levels will be available: The basic version will be the Work Truck, LT will be the mid-level trim, and the top version will be the Z71. About 10 to 15 percent of sales are expected to be to fleet customers.
>
> > Chevy tells us that it’s too early to discuss exact pricing, but they did say that the truck will start well below the Silverado’s $26,760 base price. Our best estimate places the basic Colorado at just under $20,000. As mentioned, higher trims are expected to cross over into Silverado territory, so look for fully loaded models to reach $35,000.
>
> > The new Colorado seems poised to be a compelling option for mid-size-truck buyers who have only the aged Nissan and Toyota to consider, and it should be leaps and bounds better than the old version, which finished fifth out of five in its only C/D comparison test. These days, though, rounding up enough of these pickups so that any of them can finish fifth may be a tall order.

Single cab won’t be offered . Only extended cab and crew cab. And manual transmission will only come in ext cab work truck models.

I’m not at all a fan of the dash shapes, but super cool to see a diesel small truck like this…doesn’t look like you’ll be able to get a 6+ ft bed though, even with just the extended cab…

I’ve had my fingers crossed for quite some time that ford would do something similar, bring diesel to the smaller end of the lineup for MPG’s

then again, I’m pretty serious about getting into a resto-mod vintage truck instead of new when my lease is up on my F150 so I may not even be in the market anyways lol.

That is a ton of nice new improvements on that truck.
Huge step up in power from the inline 5s that were offered, shifter off the steering column, six speed transmission, and turbo diesel option. Exterior is kind of meh, but has that baby of a silverado kind of look to it.

Well equipped, z71, leather, v6 crewcab is going to get scary pricy though. 35-37k I would assume. A lot of dough for a mini truck.

it’s not that far-fetched though…it’s what the toyota tacoma is going for maxed out as well…and at least here maybe you can get the diesel and get some halfway decent MPGs and towing capacity

> **Chevy pondering Colorado ZR2; manual transmission confirmed for base model**
>
> > After years of watching the market for compact and midsize pickup trucks dry up, we’re finally starting to see some genuinely exciting events unfold. Aside from bringing the first all-new vehicle to this market in years, not to mention an upcoming diesel engine, Automotive News reports that Chevy is considering the development of a special off-road version of the 2015 Chevy Colorado, which could bring back the ZR2 moniker.
>
> > Introduced in 1994 on the Chevy S-10 (and most recently used on a 2009 SEMA concept truck), the ZR2 trim level brought extensive modifications for better off-road driving, which gave the S-10 and Blazer things like a wider track, lifted suspension, meaty tires and upgraded axles and suspension. It isn’t clear what kind of changes Chevy would make to Colorado ZR2, but in speaking with AN, GM North America President Mark Reuss indicated that there is room above the Colorado Z71 for an off-road variant.
>
> > In addition to the possible ZR2 model, Chevy will – cue the angelic chorus – definitely offer the Colorado with a manual transmission. Left out of the official press release from the truck’s LA Auto Show debut, AN says that this transmission will be available only on the extended-cab, two-wheel-drive WT trim level.

> **2015 Chevrolet Colorado: First Look**
>
> > Many folks still think the only reason to buy a compact or midsize pickup truck is because you can’t afford a full-size pickup. Those people are wrong. We’ll state it right up front: There are pickup buyers who aren’t interested in full-size trucks and they need more choices.
> >
> > General Motors is banking on that notion by offering the first all-new pickup truck in the midsize segment since Honda came to market with its unibody Ridgeline in 2005. GM will unveil the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
> >
> > With a three-truck strategy — heavy-duties, half-tons and midsizers — GM is hoping to appeal to all pickup buyers by offering a small, reliable and more affordable truck that fits in a garage, can navigate narrow streets and spin in the dirt. So GM has put the previous-generation Colorado to rest and started with a clean slate. As near as we can tell, this new truck is a combination of the best designs and solutions from the 2014 Silverado 1500 and the heavier-duty new global Holden Colorado (built in Thailand as a one-ton model that’s sold throughout Indonesia). Here’s what we know so far about the new Colorado:
> >
> > **Exterior**
> > The 2015 Chevy Colorado is the first of two anticipated new midsize pickups to be revealed; we’re guessing the 2015 GMC Canyon will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. Engineers have told us that when compared to a Silverado 1500 crew-cab short bed, the Colorado will be almost 6 inches narrower, 18 inches shorter, 3 inches lower and almost 1,000 pounds lighter. As we’ve seen from the teaser photos, this fits right into GM’s “small, medium and large” lineup.
> >
> > Because of fuel economy and design challenges, GM engineers were selective about what strategies to carry over from the global Holden Colorado. Some design cues are similar, but the only carryover parts include the roof and a handful of bolts. Much of the foundational technology came from the 2014 Silverado 1500. The new frame is fully boxed and hydro-formed and uses a coil-over spring front independent suspension and a traditional spring-under leaf setup with a live axle. All models will have four-wheel disc brakes. We’re told the frame will be the strongest in the segment and have the highest tow rating for the class at 6,700 pounds and offer the highest payload as well — we figure just more than 1,400 pounds.
> >
> > The bed itself will be offered in two lengths with many of the same convenience details from the new Silverado and coming 2015 heavy-duty trucks. There will be a foot cutout in the bumper and hand hole in the bed sides for easier cargo access. There will be an optional spray-in bedliner, and the bed can be set up with 13 different cargo tie-down points. Additionally, the tailgate also will be equipped with the easy-up/easy-down strut for added convenience. And also like the Silverado, the bed interior and exterior are made from cold rolled steel instead of pressed and bent (and stretched) panels.
> >
> > This truck has undergone exhaustive aerodynamic testing, so the top of the tailgate and bedrails are specifically designed to reduce turbulence as air flows off the cab. Every truck will have active automatic grille shutters to help make the engine run more efficiently, as well as reduce front drag when moving down the road. The aluminum hood on all models (just like the Silverado 1500) improves fuel economy, and the new truck will offer three all-new — for the Colorado — powertrains.
> >
> > **Under the Hood**
> > The new Colorado will be offered in three trim levels: Work Truck (base), LT and Z71, with the latter’s four-wheel-drive package offering upgraded shocks, bigger wheels and tires, a locking differential, and hill ascent and descent control. The base engine for the first two trim levels will be a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that is preliminarily rated for 193 horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque. The V-6 (302 hp, 270 pound-feet of torque) will be familiar to some because it’s the same all-aluminum 3.6-liter engine used in everything from Chevrolet’s new Impala sedan to the GMC Terrain crossover. The biggest powertrain news is that this new midsize will be the first of its class to get a turbo-diesel option: a U.S.-tuned 2.8-liter inline-four-cylinder Duramax GM has been using overseas. The engine was a joint design between GM and VM Motori several years ago but is now completely owned and used by GM in several global platforms. Although the Duramax name was created as a joint venture with Isuzu, the new engine is solely owned by GM, which no longer has a partnership with VM Motori after Fiat finalized its purchase of the diesel engine company last month.
> >
> > There’s no doubt the 2.8-liter Duramax will be the premium engine option, but we’re told that it will be offered as an option across the entire lineup to make sure fleet and commercial buyers can outfit their vehicles as needed. However, this engine will not be available until the 2016 model year. Production logistics and assembly complexity are the reasons for its late availability, we’re told.
> >
> > GM did not release ratings for this engine, but based on other global vehicles, we’d guess power ratings would be in the 180hp-200hp and 350-pounds-feet range.
> >
> > **Cab Configurations**
> > Chevy has committed to just two models for the Colorado: a crew cab and an extended cab. Again, the Colorado exhibits technology and quietness strategies borrowed from the Silverado. The Colorado will use triple door seals, tighter clearances and more noise insulation. One noticeable difference is in the construction of the extended cab model. Where new Silverado extended cabs use conventional door openings, the Colorado will continue to use clamshell-type doors for easier rear access. Fleet customers requested this, and by using high-strength steel in the doors and roof, GM was able to achieve the roof and door crush standards it wanted.
> >
> > At this stage the Colorado will offer be two wheelbase lengths, with the crew-cab models getting a choice of a 5-foot bed (on the short wheelbase) or a 6-foot bed (on the long wheelbase). The wheelbase differences between the two, as you might suspect, is 12 inches. Extended-cab models will be offered on the shorter wheelbase and have the 6-foot bed, but we suspect dealerships will hear from business owners and regular buyers who want a longer bed version (maybe with a 7- or 8-foot bed) based on a long-wheelbase extended cab.
> >
> > **Interior**
> > The Colorado will have an available 8-inch navigation screen and easy-to-see toggle switches and icons, some of which are taken straight from the Silverado. The overall look is certainly more harmonious and unique-looking than we remember from the previous Colorado, which was a mess of mixed parts from various sedans, crossovers and vans. Some of the new Colorado’s gauge cluster reminds us of the Camaro, and the center console is wide and large, unlike the previous model.
> >
> > The rear seats in the crew cab are not as cramped as you’d expect, due in large part to the roof liner cutouts and a nice 18-degree rake to the seatbacks. Also, the rear doors do allow for good distances between the B-pillar and rear-seat base, so even if you have large boots on, access is pretty easy. Additionally, the rear seats have a huge amount of hidden storage underneath, and the seatback can be flipped down and fold flat, providing a large, wide rear tabletop. Extended-cab models will offer a small bench seat, but we’re guessing that will not be comfortable for adults (we have not seen one yet). Also, extended-cab models will offer a seat-delete option for customers who want to create their own personalized rear storage area.
> >
> > **Colorado in the Market**
> > There’s no question GM will use the “lifestyle” vehicle marketing strategy for this truck, and although that path is well worn, it’s probably more appropriate here than anywhere else. During our time poking around a fully loaded red Z71 and black extended- cab LT, we especially liked the Z71 for its sportier look. The interior is sharp and well-organized, with switches and control layouts similar to the Silverado. This is where GM’s efforts will pay off as the interiors of the Honda Ridgeline, Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma sit far underneath.
> >
> > New Colorados will roll off the assembly line in Wentzville, Mo., plant by the fall of 2014. Information about pricing and specifications will be available sporadically before that. If we learned anything from the reveal of the Chevy Silverado 1500, it’s that we’ll get more data in small bits for a long time to come. As much as that might sound like complaining, we’re excited about this one. It could change the game we’ve been watching for decades.
> >
> > Our colleagues at [Cars.com](http://Cars.com) thought the new Colorado is a good new entry to the segment.
