Usually its hard to call a GTI impressive when it comes to straight line speed, but it definitely gets some credit for these numbers…

Apparently they put the good stuff in and some slicks and ran a 12.6.

I’m impressed, FWD hatchback under 30K, runs low 13s with software.

Apr says 13.189 at 110.
Not too shabby for just a tune.

Based on my extensive internet racing and math, those numbers don’t add up.

A mid 5 second 0-60 running 13.1 1/4 must have a rocket that engages after 60 mph

I have been completely ignorant of GTIs. A couple recent articles have gotten my attention.

The GTI is as fast as a WRX in the twistys:
[http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/hatchbacks/1407\_comparison\_four\_fun\_sporty\_runabouts\_under\_30000/](http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/hatchbacks/1407_comparison_four_fun_sporty_runabouts_under_30000/)

I can’t find the original article that made this comparison. The GTI is slower than the old R32 and Golf R 0-60 and 1/4 mile, BUT, the GTI is faster everywhere else (real world, roll racing, off of a corner).

30 to 60: GTI 3.5s, R32 3.5s (draw), Golf R 4.0s
60 to 100: GTI **8.6s** , R32 9.5s, Golf R 8.7s
100 to 120: GTI **7.7s** , R32 9.2s, Golf R 8.5s
30 to 120: GTI **19.8s** , R32 22.2s, Golf R 21.2s

R32: [http://media.caranddriver.com/files/2008-volkswagen-r32.pdf](http://media.caranddriver.com/files/2008-volkswagen-r32.pdf)

I’m going to guess fwd & smart traction control is limiting 0-60? 60-110 is 7.5s …

They’re really bad at putting the power down stock, can’t imagine how much wheel spin you would have with an extra 100 ft lbs.

Im sure its tough to get going, but those aren’t the figures you’d normally see with a 13.1 @ 110mph car

I would have guessed a mid 4 0-60 if anything

110 trap is awesome… I’ll be interested to see what stage 2 gets.

my first gen direct inject FSI A3 with apr stg 2 (just an ebay downpipe and tune) went from 200/200 crank to 260/300 whp/tq and runs 14 flats… makes for a fun daily driver and gets 30mph highway… traction is always an issue down low, but I’m just used to waiting until the car is rolling before I punch it.

Just found this:

> The DA was +1890 feet. It was horribly hot and humid.

> 60 foot was terrible. 2.298.

And this was also the non Performance Pack model. The PP gets you a bit more power stock, LSD and some bigger brakes at a minimum.

Damn. One of the things I dislike about my gti is that the “LSD” is just is applying brakes to the slipping wheel.

That’s pretty damn good.

I wonder if it has the K04 size turbo like my Golf R. I was at the track 2 weeks ago and was trapping 108 ish on a pretty hot day. That’s catless, with the stock K04 running 25lbs of boost. 12.9 @107.59 with a 1.8 60’ to be specific. (that’s in the top 20 on the Golf R 1/4 mile list, sad as it is) I’m guessing with more ideal conditions I could prob trap 110mph, but my car has the filter on a stick, catless downpipes and the Stage 2 tune.

X…

probably slightly better software and AWD. VW/audi undertune so their more expensive cars look better.

They should waaaaay under tune for better mpg and lower insurance, then you just call APR, etc. 🙂

Sweet!

The new ones do not use KKK turbos amymore
They are IHI branded now. From what I hear similar in size to your turbo, slightly smaller.
