The difference is the lobe design, the XE has a less aggressive lobe. The 224R uses the Comp XE-R lobes, which are more aggressive. The lift on the 224R is higher @ .581/.581.

I have used the TSP 224R with TSP 7.400" pushrods and Comp 918 springs for 5 years now, and it’s still running strong.
