I am looking at buying a 240sx soon but I know very little about them so I would like to know more about one so I dont buy one I dont like.

From what i know they had the same body style from 89-94??

I was wondering if they had the same front end(lights, fog lights, etc.) on all the older style ones?

And if they all had the same engines, which ones came with a LSD if any?

And which ones had a sunroof, p/l, p/w ( like for example 240sx SE)?

Some of these questions may seem stupid but they have me stumped

Some help would be appreciated
Thanks

89-90 was the “pignose” front end and had a KA24E (SOHC)
91-94 was the “chuki” front end and had a KA24DE (DOHC)

Not sure about others but I know the HICAS equiped cars also had LSD.

like 2003specv said, the 89-90 had the teardrop blinker lights in the bumper with optional fog lights that were kinda square and not that good looking. the 91-94 had both the blinkers and fog lights in the bumper in a teardrop shape. the engines did also switch and i think that was the reason the lsd was introduced. From what i have gathered is there were no factory lsd’s in 89 and 90’s, and only some in the newer style. hicas ones did have them i think, and some others, but it seems like a big nissan mistery…

In Canada the s13 240SX came as the following:

-1989-1994 There was a coupe and a hatchback version. There was also a limited edition convertable version. When going for the S13, most people go for the 89-93 because the 94 was available strictly as a convertable with an auto tranny. From 1989-1990 the coupe and the fastback both came with the KA24E. That’s a single cam motor that puts out 140 HP. From 1991 and up it came with the KA24DE, a dual cam motor that puts out 155 HP. The S13 was also available with HICAS which is a 4 wheel steering system. Some people like it a lot and some hate it. If you plan on drifting, you don’t want HICAS. HICAS models also came with lsd in Canada. 91-93’s are easier to sr20det/ca18det etc swaps on because the power steering reservoir and lines are on the same side as the japanese counterpart, also they have the dohc instrument cluster. The interior is also nicer in the chuki.

89-90 = zenki
91-94 = chuki
we didn’t get the kouki model here

So from what i understand if your 240 has hicas you have a lsd?

And if you get one without a lsd whats the least expensive way to get one?

And can hicas be disabled?

Yes.The 89s and 90s both come with the SOHC. Thats what everyone has said so far…

Yes. If you have HICAS you have an LSD.

If you get one without an LSD find someone selling a used LSD. They usually go from $200-300.

Yes. Hicas can be elimated. [http://www.n-e-c-c.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3904](http://www.n-e-c-c.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3904)

> The 240SX is a sports car that was introduced to the North American market by Nissan in 1988 for the following model year. It replaced the outgoing 200SX (S12) model. Most of the 240SX were equipped with the 2.4-liter inline 4 engine (KA24E from 1989–1990 and KA24DE from 1991–1999). The KA24E had a single overhead cam and KA24DE had dual overhead cams. Two distinct generations of the 240SX, the S13 (1989–1995) the S14 (1995-1999) were produced based on the Nissan S platform. The 240SX is closely ...

However there were LSD’s in non-HICAS cars. And not all SE’s had HICAS.

The easiest way to tell is by looking a the diff cover. If you see alot of cooling fins it is an VSLD and without is an open i believe.

Strange, because my s13, which is an 89, does have the cooling fins on the back but doesn’t seem to really act like an lsd. Although that said, the shitty ass tires on it might make it hard to tell conclusively.

89/90 never had LSD. Most 91-93 coupes had LSD and alot of higher trim hatches including the ones with hicas had LSD.

I know! That’s what I thought too…even though lots of people claim that ALL canadian models regardless of year have em. I did notice that it doesn’t have the LSD oil only sticker on it.
