Hey neonracer, there is a new issue of “Camaro Performers” mag on the shelf. They do a simple low-budget build-up on a 305 and get 350ftlb and 372HP out of it. They used a stock 305 that was lying around in their garage (dished pistons - low compression) and standard flat tappet cam. Yours probably has the flat top pistons (tbi motor - higher compression) and roller cam, so you would do even better. They did not rebuild the bottom end, it was left factory. The key components were Enginequest Vortec 180cc heads that they milled 0.030 off to get 60cc chamber size and a Comp XE268H flat tappet hydraulic 224/230 @ 0.050 & 0.477/0.480 lift (you could probably do better here with a roller if your motor is already set up for a roller cam. They added an Edelbrock RPM air-gap vortec intake and a 650CFM Demon carb (pretty standard stuff). No prices were given in the story except the retail on the bare heads which was $225 each. Just saw it yesterday and thought ya might wanna grab a copy. :bigok: ---

It seemed to me that after the money they dumped into a 305 they could have built something better. I was figuring with machine work, valves, springs, seals, guides, intake, carb, etc, etc. they have to be into over $1400.00. Seems like a lot for a 305… ---

got it running today for the first time. just needs alittle adjustment here and there. ---

guy on [thirdgen.org](http://thirdgen.org) has been running 305’s for a while and he is deeep into the bottom 12’s on a 305 carbed motor. they can be made to run just fine…just have to spend just as much money on them as a 350 motor and spin them abit higher… thats why its best to go 350 anyway but if you want to be different and rev up some, then a 305 is a cool motor. i was thinking about the idea of a forged destroked 350 to something small like 302 inches with a good set of heads and HSR with a medium solid roller cam and rev it to 7K easily. kinda like a DZ302 Z/28 of the late 60’s but in a newer thirdgen Z28. its not for my car but i’d like to make another for that purpose with a stick if i get money to afford two projects ---

update everything is up and running except to put it in time with a light ,i had it out the other night and another problem came up with the fuel system… i have replaced the electric pump twice now. both times i used the mr gasket pump and both leaked around the housing. i looked at napa in mt pleasant for a pump but they looked at me like a monkey doing a math problem and said they dont have anything to help me. autozone had an holley electric pump with regulator that i bought and i still need to tighten a few loose ends. ---

Bought mine at Mt. pleasant napa. The people there are pretty smart…If you want a real trip, go to the new auto zone in connellsville. I’ve already been banned from there. ---

I’ve already been banned from there. 1st off how do you get ban from autozone?? lol i went to mt pleasant napa and the guy with the lazy eye and pony tail had no idea what i was talking about and the older guy tried to get me to advanced to buy the mr gasket pump that i had trouble with. autozone really isnt my favorite place but there is a guy in there that seems to know alot. tracy over at connellsville advance is ok but nobody at the advance in mt pleasant that i met so far have a clue. ---

Since they moved in, I haven’t made more than 2-3 purchases from Advance. Depending on who’s working, I do just go in and grab a computer and find my own stuff though.
