OK, so the SUVs I’m currently looking at are -

97 Explorer
96k
black, tan leather
Exterior 8/10
Interior 8/10
Needs an alignment (shop will do)
5.0 motor.
AWD (part time)
PW/PL w/ keyless entry

97 GMC Jimmy
70k
Green w/ dark cloth
Exterior 9/10
Interior 10/10 - fucking mint for a 97 w/ 70k
Doesn’t appear to need any work
Vortec V6
Pushbutton 4x4 (I’m pretty sure)
PW/PL no keyless ☹

Which is worth more?
What are they worth? (I can’t KBB @ work)
Which will have a higher re-sale in the future?
Any potential problems?

The other contender @ different dealership was a 97 Grand Cherokee w/ I6. 132k, fully loaded, 6500 bux. I don’t think I want it after looking at these things.

Exploders blow

Jimmys are worse than exploders

Save yourself - and buy a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9L Limited

The 5.9L runs a low 15 stock, sounds aggressive stock, looks awesome stock.

Not to mention it will hold its value a lot better than any of those.

+1 for the Jeep. its a jeep thing… my mother has had numerous Fiords, including two mountaineers. Ujoing problems, rear brake problems, Swaybar endlinks that fell off twice, my subaru is much better in the snow IMO… look for a forester $.02

man i like gas prices.

:word:

MPG isn’t a major concern… but don’t let it blow right out the window.

I’m not looking for something thats going to get me in trouble…
I was just in the shitter, thinking about all the sweet stuff I could do to the Explorer… being a 5.0… and then I figured… go slow, save $$.

Factory quickness is :pimp: though… Grand Cherokees are hot though, always thought so.

BTW - It has to be black and under 10k

I doubt if either one would be worth a whole lot in another 50k miles. Domestic SUV’s don’t seem to hold their value too well do they?

Gas mileage is gonna suck in both so I wouldn’t worry about that (probably average mid-high teens).

[autos.msn.com](http://autos.msn.com) lists the Explorer’s blue book at 5600-7450
[autos.msn.com](http://autos.msn.com) lists the Jimmy’s blue book at 5000-6600
The Ford is listed as being a bit more reliable (4/5 bars vs 3/5 bars for the Jimmy).

I \<3 leather so I’d probably opt for the explorer even though it’s higher mileage. Plus you’ll get to listen to your buddies tell you every FORD acronym they can think of!

My bro’s girl has a 97 jimmy, I hate the thing. My uncle has an explorier, its ok but I personaly dont like it either.

Actually everyone calling the VR4 a DSM is more entertaining… so I will have the best of both worlds.

Thanks for the prices BTW… very helpful. Both are marked around 5600 bucks.

I want the Explorer, the wife wants the Jimmy…

Take this into account - I forgot to mention it earlier

I plan on lifting whatever it is, bigger tires… and off-roading on occasion (once a month or so) so it has to have a decent drivetrain.

parts are cheap and plentiful for 5.0 explorers. you can sneeze at a 302 and it makes forty extra horse. if it’s a DD or just for light offroading, may want to consider that.

that said, grand cherokees are pimplistic.

I guess I’ll be the first and say don’t buy either an explorer, jimmy or Jeep and keep the VR4. You’ll shoot yourself when you go from twin turbo AWD to dirt slow gas eating 4wd.

yeah honestly jack, buy yourself a jeep. a couple years ago i was in the same dillema, i drove a 99 explorer, a 98 blazer, and a 98 grand cherokee. the jeep was so much further ahead of the two in terms of style, features, and reliability. there’s such a huge aftermarket following for all models of jeeps too, it’s crazy. find yourself a 98 limited for around 8-9k and you’ll get around 15-16mpg out of a 5.9l, which isn’t good, but not terrible either.
