> Hell, now that I’ve moved to FIOS I still miss my Dish DVR. The FIOS one is still 1000x better than the TW one, but the Dish DVR is the best on the market.
>
> As for the OP, no, you can’t copy stuff to the hard drive and move it to your PC. The recordings are encrypted with the DVR’s unique encryption keys so only the DVR that recorded them can play them.
>
> If you want to DVR stuff and move it to the PC your only option is Tivo. The Dish and TW DVR’s won’t do it and Fios doesn’t even support external drives yet.

thats why you need tivo 🙂

i just added a nice WD esata to my tivo, up to over 150 hours of HD storage now.

The FIOS on demand is really nice though.

Between on demand and newsgroup downloading the limited space on the DVR isn’t really an issue for me. Another 1.5 TB drive shows up today bringing my total server space to over 3TB.

Eh, I still found ODN and MDN to be lacking severely in features, perhaps 3.0 versions fixed that with MAS 5.0…

Humper you know how much I hate TW TV service and I am beginning to hate Roadrunner in amherst, my service was great in Tonanwanda starting to suck ass at new house

And just for that the acronym meanings
ODN == OCAP Digital Navigator which runs on cable card based SA settops
MDN == Mystro Digital Navigator which runs on the older embeded security SA SETTOPS
MAS == Mystro Application Server (backend piece to the above two)

I agree, however its a step in the right direction, going in house vs SA’s 80’s guide… The new guide still lacks features, but is a huge improvement over sara, and more improvements will come.
