# Alternator Upgrade - is it safe?

What do you think, is it safe for all electrical system? I have Pioneer stereo with 800W subwoofer amp. and plan to change battery for a small one but don’t want to fry ECU, cables or blow fuses all the time.
This upgrade seems like great idea but I want to hear your opinion, i know here is a lots of guys very knowledgeable in this area.

wow thats a great mod and saves on new alternators for cheap bastards like me. thanks for posting. ya that should work without any problems go for it let us know how it turns out?

I know that sometimes alternators undercharge and I’ve heard that sometimes they overcharge, my question is what will happen then.

yes, my buddy has a 125amp altenator from a newer gen quest. it has a bigger it has 5 ribs on the pulley instead of 4. anyways it works great! no problems at all. i find it way better than stock. stock alt is shit.

I’m planning on doing this soon as well. I believe that a custom mounting bracket has to be made in order for this to bolt up correctly?

no but it does require drilling the mount bigger, and spacing out the top bracket.

When Mine died I just had It rebuilt and then guy was able to get it to 100amp. It was like $150 fully rebuilt

i just installed a quest alternator on a customers 93 s13 today. was fairly easy. yet time consuming to get it to fit properly.
the writer of the installation guide should add that the bracket from the block to the bottom of the intake manifold (y shape) has to be removed. also the belt must be held on the pulley and turn the crank by hand to get the belt on. adjuster needs to be snugged up just a bit.
tight fit…very tight. but it works amazingly. and for the price comparison. it’s a win win.
however i used a 95 quest alternator due to availability. not sure if it makes a big difference.
