If any of you havent seen it, do yourself a favour and get it.
And does anyone know if there are any other types of movies in this genre and style?
Aside from Ghost in the Shell.
I don’t like that fairy type BS, or Initial D stuff. Vampires are cool, so are robots with big metal dicks.

the new apple seed was amazing.
Huge anime fan here… lol…
I liked the ghost in the shell stand alone complex as well. But Ghost in the shell innocence was absolutly terrible. the DVD only had english for the hearing impared subtitles. so it would describe things like [electronic beeping] and [cat screeches] along with the dialouge, it was so bad that I could only watch about 10 min of it before I got pissed and stopped watching.
more of masamune Shirrows style would be uhm… Dominion tank police. and the original apple seed movie… he does more manga than anything else really. check him out.

If you like vampires, give Hellsing and Trinity Blood a shot. I’ve seen Hellsing, but I’m too busy to start Trinity Blood right now (my friends say it’s amazing thou) b/c I’m watching fairy type BS right now 😃
As to robots with big metal dicks… I personally haven’t seen any, but Gundam is some kick-ass dick-free anime WITH giant robots. I’ve seen Gundam Wing, X, Seed and now on Seed Destiny. All kicked ass and I reccomend.
Right now I’m watching Saber Marionette J OVA (finished the J series) and I think it’s awesome. You might not like it as it’s not the serious type. It’s about 3 robot chicks living with this guy and all the cool and dumb shit that happens from that. There’s also some fighting b/c they’re at war with another country and these robot girls are quite proficient at whooping ass.
Before that it was School Rumble, and I have to say it is one of the BEST animes I’ve ever seen. Then again, if you don’t like school animes, I doubt you’ll like it, but I’m a huge fan of them. If you do like school animes and end up liking School Rumble watch Great Teacher Onizuka and Azumanga Daioh as well. Phew… long post… long post 😃

Evangelion is also great you have probably seen it. Samaurai X if you like ninja bloodshed. The series is Kenshin that one is pretty popular.
If you like soccer I suggest you watch Hungry Heart Wild Striker. It’s not the best its a school anime. But all about soccer so I love it.

What i’m really looking for is the style of animation and CG demonstrated in Appleseed 2K4.
It doesn’t look anything like the original and most other animes. The only old looking kinda anime i like are Akira, and Astroboy.
I will check out Hellsing and Samurai X. Thanks for the heads up.

Does your gf choose your anime?
Some that I liked are Vampire Hunter D, GITS (SAC is okay…), Street Fighter Series was decent, DBZ, Evangelion, Gundam Wing, Gun Grave, I really liked Cowboy Bebop (the series, the movie was weak)
I haven’t watched any anime in quite a while now though, so a lot of that list is pretty old/main stream.

My GF doesn’t watch any anime actually 😃 My best friend watches very feminine animes and reccomends some to me. Ones that he’s seen and I refused to: Sailor Moon (all of it… I dunno how he got his hands on it, the series is massively huge), Card Captor Sakura. Otherwise I’ve seen a lot of girly animes that he gave me.
Samurai X = Rurouni Kenshin OVA, watch in this order: First OVA (4 ep), Series, 2nd OVA (2 ep)
I liked GITS and SAC a lot, Innocence was a tad off, but I still liked it.
Street Figher series I never got to see, although I’d like to, DBZ… eww… Evangelion was awesome, so was GW, and I’m one of the very few to have NOT seen Bebop. I saw the first episode and I thought it was weak, so I never continued with it. Trigun rocks the cock though, awesome anime.

If you like Cowboy Bebop, for the love of god download Samurai Champloo (creator of CB). I highly suggest any of the following series for an awesome watch:

I’m getting Champloo as soon as I free up space, but a lot of those are my personal fav’s. Azumanga Daioh borders on godly, prolly my all-time favourite anime.
Oh, and Lain \>\> The Matrix. Similar concept, but executed sooo much better.
Making the assumption that we like similar animes, I can definitely reccomend Scrapped Princess, Last Exile, Stellvia of the Universe (Uchuu No Stellvia), Chobits, Onegai Teacher… I’ll think of a few others 😃

HAHAHA!!! Oruchuban Ebichu!!! My god that anime is so fuckin hilarious (only has 4 episodes)!!!
I have 20 some episodes of Scrapped Princess, but I havent any of it yet. Seen Onegai Teacher, pretty good series, some funny stuff but a little too much mushy shit for my likings.

Ya well now that someone has taken the time and money to do it for a first time, its gonna be cheaper and better every time they use it. I would expect to see at least a few more feature films in this style, and who knows, if budgets get ginormous maybe even a few series.

I’m dling some Champloo DVD now, looks pretty good.
The director is Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Animatrix) and is designed by Kazuto Nakazawa (Kill Bill vol1.).
