Stock srt4 has no muffler the ticket will be dropped. I had a 84 Jeep CJ7 with str8 pipe to cherry bomb. I used to get tickets for having no cat. The candian models did not have converters on them in 84. I’d walk in showing them a photocopy of the exhaust system out of the manual and it got dropped everytime. ---

i had trooper fish in lockport write me a ticket for no muffler on a dakota i had as a winter beater. had no muffler, but also had donut missing between manifold and ypipe with cracked ypipe. i got a muffler from a friend clamped it on the tailpipe and did the ol coat hanger to hold it up. didnt bother with the massive manifold leak. went back the next morning to have the trooper sign off that i replaced muffler to reasonable sound level to drop ticket, still loud as hell. i start it up and show him i had a muffler on there as it was hangin below frame. he said it was still really loud. told him i thought it was just the motor makin noise since it had over 200k miles. NO LIE he takes his hat off and puts his head down on the hood to take a listen and says yep sounds like its the motor and signs the form to drop the ticket. as for your situation, might as well just pay it as it usually is only 24-48 hours to fix the muffler to have them sign it off without a hassle. ---

maybe ill bring a diagram of my exhaust(stock) and say they are loud stock… sorry… ill bring my dads truck to court… should work i guess… and ill get a fix it ticket, but wait that wouldnt make sense… ---

another question… Are FACTORY performance exhausts legal in NYS? for example, SPT (subaru performance tuning) exhausts… ---

You can not modify the exhaust system to be louder than the original car was sold but if the factory gives you a performance option that is louder, you are fine. ---

The factory catback would be fine as long as it comes from the factory on that car. YOU running a catless 3" DP would be something you are adding and therefor not from the factory. Also, I don’t know any street legal in NY car that comes from the factory without a cat so there is another thing you can get hit with and a dead giveaway its not factory. I also think you can be hit too if you add the performance edition mods to a non performance car. Say a Pontiac Grand Prix comes with a factory economy exhaust but a GTP comes with a high performance cat back that is 50% louder from the factory. Installing that on the non GTP car can get you a ticket too. ---

Here is the law on exhaust: [http://nyspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2957](http://nyspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2957) If I were you, since the ticket was written for “no muffler” I’d get a shop to write you a slip saying you took it in to have the missing muffler installed only to find that nothing was missing. But who knows? ---

If you change any part of your exhaust system that came from the factory on your specific vehicle and it is now louder then you can get a ticket. For example; any catback system that is louder, putting an srt4 exhaust on a regular neon, changing a down pipe etc. ---

omg, just get a shop to right u a receipt saying they put the stock shit on. it has worked for me in west seneca, OP, and tonawanda ---

I got a ticket for the civic for my Racing mufler. Its not that loud either. Made the car sound mad sweet and gives me a extra kick when I hit VTEC. :tup: ---

when i got pulled over for loud exhaust by a trooper he printed me out the page about exhaust. it says basically it cant be modified louder than stock, str-4 doesnt have a muffler, all u have to do is prove they dont have mufflers from the factory and you min. its pretty plain n simple. even if your shit is modded, dont tell them, they arent guna go look at ur car… ---
