When my Subaru was backed into, it was no fault. I don’t know how it works, but I didn’t pay anything out of pocket. ---

Yeah I’m over city life. Quiet suburbs sound glorious right now. In the span of 2 years living in the city, my BMW was hit once, my Subaru was hit, and now her Audi. Every vehicle we’ve owned. ---

I thought this would be a case where you have to pay your collision deductible to get it fixed if the other driver isn’t found. Waiting for an insurance person to chime in (_cough_ Bobby _cough_) ---

She just got off the phone with insurance and it’s looking that way. In my case I had the plate number and I guess they found the driver (they never told me they did until after it was all said and done). The insurance company is going to try twice to get in contact with the person, and after that we just have to pony up and pay the $500. ---

Did they leave any pieces of their car, or their paint on yours? I’ve seen these cases solved on car forums with a single piece of a broken marker light. Basically, the lazy insurance companies would rather pay your claim and jack your rates than find the party responsible. Unless you do it for them. ---

From my phone call earlier I think the party has been found. There was a distinct hesitation and nervousness. The cops are not going to do anything about it and this place is pretty deep, deep enough that the resources can be dedicated to get to the bottom without really inconveniencing any one person too much. A little bit of watching, a couple of pictures, a few phone calls, you will be made whole and we will all get a bit of pre winter entertainment. ---

We have filed a claim with both Geico (our insurance) and Progressive (their insurance). Progressive went out to investigate all their vehicles (2 Blazers and a Montana van) and concluded that the damage on the minivan (which of their 3 vehicles was the only one that had damage) indicated that it could not have been the one that hit our car. The only remaining possibility is that the person who left that number was driving someone else’s vehicle; I really have no way of determining who’s/what car that would be. Otherwise, he was with a friend in their vehicle, the friend hit our car, and he left his number (perhaps the friend didn’t have insurance, or didn’t want to take the responsibility of the accident). The story is that the “mother” was not out driving the cars that night, but she did tell the insurance company that her husband was out at the sabres game that evening. We showed up to our friend’s house at 750pm, and left at 10pm. Game started at 7pm, so I’m assuming this guy was in the area after the game to drop off whoever he was with, and hit our car then. Not sure what to do at this point besides call the police and give them my theory, but there’s no guarantee they will have the motivation to investigate. Other than that I could try to contact the guy himself, but I only have his wife’s number, and she refuses to admit fault. ---

If Progressive says the damage on their car doesn’t line up with the damage on yours and their story is they didn’t hit your car it’s cased closed. BPD is not going to spend any more time on this. You’re SOL, pay your deductible, move to Lancaster and think of it as your last City of Buffalo street parking tax. ---
