Okay so here’s the story by me being an idiot and cutting the hubcentric lip off my spacers and attempting to put them on my m3 I ruined the 2 sets.

Now what I am looking for is a machine shop to cut the spacers down to make a lip out of some of the face or to put and insert into the opening to match the outer dia of the hub, anyone know a good place to do either and for a good price hopefully.

Spacers are h&r 20 mm and 10 mm with no hubcentric ring to fit in the wheel.

For the cost, you’re most likely better off buying new spacers. Which car are they for? I have some 12mm for all BMW 5 lug except for E39 and X3/5/6.

That would be a pretty basic job of sticking them in a lathe and facing them off a bit. Can’t imagine it taking much more than an hour. I’m entirely capable of it, although I’m not sure how easily I could access a lathe and/or get them back to you at this point in time since I go to school in Utica. Most community colleges will have a shop, if you know anyone at HVCC my suggestion would be to try that route.

PM or better yet call Darryl and Albany Speed Shop. Tell him Mike Wood said its a simple job for Bill… he will know what I am talking about. Bill is 110% capable to end mill off the lip on the spacers. Hell he could also face the damage off the ones you hacked up too, make them usable again, just a bit thinner than they were.

lol. done right with appropriate radii and measurements, cetting centric, etc would take longer than an hour to do these.

Most wheels have a taper going to the hubcentric of ~3-5mm, then the actual hubcentric diameter. to machine these down and have enough of a lip(~10mm) that’s actually going to act as a hubcentric, the 20’s will be cut down in half and the 10’s, well you can figure that out.

that’s why they start with a billet ~20mm thicker than what the actual spacer will end up as.

I would buy new ones. I can tell you that If i were to do them it would be expensive.

Thanks for everyone’s input, is it possible to add an insert to the center and have that cut down out of round aluminum I guess, I don’t really know so I’m just throwing it out there also I don’t know how much it would cost.

Cossey- let me know how much u want for your spacers but these are for the m5 so the ones u have won’t fit but maybe I’ll throw a set on my m3.

Adam all said he wants is to remove the ring from the spacers, and apparently put the wheels on lug centric… I think.

I re-read it and I dont fully understand what he wants. But yeah if he wants a lip to seat a ring on, it needs a little more work than just buzzing it flush. 🙂

Pardon me if I am not on the same page as everyone else, my head is full of snot and I am sitting in a miserable hot office. I want to punch my screen becasue the clock isnt moving fast enough. lol

yeah, he accidentally cut the hub lip off, and now needs it back. Other way around it would be simple yes, just hogging off the material in a lathe.

no worries, sinus stuff does fuck with your mind.

that could be done, still likely not cost effective vs just buying new ones but a better way to approach it than machining new HC’s from the material that’s left.

gotcah.

Well how about just machine the lip right off and deck the spacers dead flat? then just install the wheels lug centric.

for those of you that dont know what that means… you install the wheels without a hub ring or anything. then slowly run around the lugs in a star pattern tightening them up a little at a time jumping lug to lug to let the lug seats center the wheel on the hub. take your time and make about 5 passes around each lug and its usually good to go. Done it many times on wheels I didnt have the right rings for.

If anyone calls BS, I will drive my brothers A4 we just put on air to your house, remove one wheel and prove there isnt a hubcentric ring at all in there. Install them lug centric and take you down the road at 100mph… zero vibrations.

This is done all the time, I would venture to say that more than 50% of aftermarket wheel installations are done without hubcentric rings.

never really thought that would work, its cut to the face now ( flush ) but i thought it would be safer to run with a hubcentric lip, so i figured maybe it needed just a 5mm lip so the 10 would be cut down to a 5mm with the lip and the 20 would be a 15mm with a lip.

spacers and extended lugs were like 300 if i remember correctly, sucks to pay that again if i dont have to or i can pay 100 bucks to get them cut down and the lip made

question for you guys, would a hubcentric ring be needed for a mounting application with lug nutz rather than lug bolts like your german guys?

Yeah, I kinda derped looking at the picture and thought he wanted to get rid of the lip, not put a new one back on. Starting with a 20mm spacer and having to create a lip in the middle, you wouldn’t have a whole lot of spacer left.

You are right, putting a lip back on would be a lot harder, and was not aware of the taper. Things like this could be “made to work” cheaply and fairly easily, but that isn’t the “right way” of doing things.

Buying new spacers or just saying screw it and using the lugs to center the wheel are probably better options.
