# anybody charge ac on the side?

Hey what you guys doin Friday? If its nice I need to get mine sucked down and charged on the Viper. I found and repaired the leak (compressor o-rings like i thought) but wanted it charged properly so I didn’t use any of that junk ass autozone crap.

Well the bottom line is that is not deep enough. Check out this chart:

If you only go to 28 in/hg you can see there could still be moisture in the system as long as the air temperature is under 86degF. What’s more important, is that this chart shows you that reading vacuum levels with a bourdon tube type gauge is not accurate enough. You need a gauge that reads microns. Either a thermistor or transducer type device.

I’m guessing you deal with industrial refer systems or something of the nature.  
Our service machine is set to go to 30 inches at the shop even though the manufacturer only specs 28. I’ll have to save that chart though.

Wow. This blew up. I just replaced all the seals except the compressor shaft seals in my system as well as new expansion tube and receiver dryer. I’m hoping for ice cold AC this season!
