# anyone here ever replace a clutch on an s2000?

Its really not hard I have done 2 of them. Honestly as long as its not like a twin disk or some shit. You should be fine.

There is no point at all in the lightening flywheel
the faster revving is negligible, and it makes a bitch for revmatching in low gears
just get yours resurfaced. Aluminum flywheels are a waste of money, and resurfacing is about 20-30$
And and if u get it done by that place for 300, make sure you get some where it will ONLY be 300$, and they can’t raise the price because it took longer

not true, resurfacing is about 50-60. i had mine done at klispie in hamburg, and it was 60ish due to the fact that theres 3 dowels and 2 steps in the flywheel.
im not sure if the s2k flywheel would be the same way though, but in my opinion, i would just get yours resurfaced and call it a day.

I’m pretty sure no one who has done an S2K clutch would say it’s cake 🙂 Though it would certainly be easier the second (or third) time around. You figure out tricks for every repair.

Well, that depends on a couple things. What mechanical experience do you have? Have you ever changed a clutch before on any car? Have you ever done an engine swap? Will you have access to all the tools that you’ll need? Will there be someone there to assist, answer Qs, etc? If you have access to a lift, trans jack, air tools then this is easier then in your garage on the ground. There are some jobs that are worth paying someone else to do even when you can do it yourself. This might be one of those. Or you could look at it like a learning experience. It’s a good thing when you’re intimately familiar with your cars inner workings. Where do you work BTW?
I guess maybe I overstated how much of a PITA this will be since I think of the whole clutch and engine job together to a degree. It’s still a PITA but not the end of the world for sure. There are much worse jobs to do…

Lol, i got my 2surface on done at fleetpride for 20bucks, and the guy polished/cleaned my pressure plate for me. he might have just been feeling like a nice guy

^ Damn, that’s a good deal. I had one done years ago at Napa for like $40-50. I thought that was reasonable though not “cheap”.

most hondas use 17mm 12point headed bolts for the flywheel and 10mm 12 pt headed bolts for the PP fyi

It sounds like you have the resources (assuming the shop there is cool with a non employee working in the shop, this is generally a huge no-no for insurance reasons etc.) to tackle this job. If you could get your hands on a factory service manual or get someone who works at a dealership to print it out for you that’d be a plus. Then you’ll have a step by step guide, any critical torque specs, etc. One thing is once everything is unbolted, you have to pull the clutch fork out from the throw out bearing to get the trans out then just make sure you put it back in the hole of the bellhousing (from the inside) before re-install. I believe in the manual they say to put a rag in the hole to hold the fork in place. For the extension, you can just use a long 3/8 chrome ext with an impact 3/8\>1/2 adapter. Just don’t use a Harbour Freight ext LOL, at least use a Craftsman.
