I’d love to run a megasquirt on my RB but the only think stopping me is my lack of tuning knowledge.

its a good way to learn. have someone teach you the basics and go from there.

if my car was not OBD2, it would have an Autronic SM4 on it. but NYS failmissions/obd put the brakes on that.
