# Anyone use an app for Car Maintenance

For iPhone
Just wondering if anyone uses an app to keep track of MPG and Car Maintenance. I used to use “Gas Cubby” to track everything but it went down and I lost a few yrs of stuff.
I tried out a few free apps and so far I like “Auto Care”. It allows you to add multiple cars with the ability for fill-ups, services, reminders and reports. The layout is “ok”, I’ve seen better. “Fuel Monitor” has a nice layout but the free version only allows one car. I may end up buying it.
Anyone use apps or just old school pen and paper.

I’ve been using Torque pro with the wireless Bluetooth transmitter to monitor systems, as well as run scans for codes. Not really setup as a maintenance app but the code scan function is cool.

I have Dash.by for my wifi OBD monitoring and use Road Trip for my MPG calculations and Maintenance and a 3 ring binder for recites.

I just drive it and put gas in. I have a 3x5 card in the glove box with my oil change dates/mileage. That 3x5 card never crashes, never needs updates, and works regardless of what phone OS I have.

It’s fun comparing the real consumption to what the trip computer calculates
I use an UltraGauge…plugs right into the OBD2 and sticks to the windshield. I really don’t use it to track fuel consumption as I just do that by hand every time I fill up to get avg MPG, but it does that too. I like that it tracks IAT, ambient air temp, boost pressure, system voltage, coolant temps, rpm, speed, etc etc. It will also record maximum values for all of the above and allows you to set programmable limits that will give you an audible beep if you exceed them. I have limits set for coolant temp and mph, very convenient on road trips. Also reads codes and clears them which is nice if you’re on a trip and don’t have a scanner handy. I use it primarily in the BMW but for fun I threw it in the Subaru for the winter and like it so much that I’ll probably be picking up another one.

My app does all this for a cost if about $20, and I can sit at my breakfast table and see if it’s warmed up to my liking.

I have a tab on my google doc spreadsheet for maintenance and I made an arduino-based gauge to monitor the basics. I also have a CAN shield to get more datas if I get inspired to do some upgrades, maybe add a few more thermocouples someday too.
