# Anyone using a Silvia/180sx gauge cluster?

So I picked up this sexy Silvia gauge cluster for cheap off ebay a while back and finally got to installing it yesterday. After pulling out the old cluster, I realized that the plugs are different so the Silvia cluster isnt just a plug and play replacement.
I then tried just replacing the 240sx tach with the Silvia one, while using the original cluster. The two tachs look identical, and the connections also look the same so I figured it would work, but no go.
If anyone is using the Silvia tach, did you have to rewire it?

Yup, I am. It plugged right in and works fine. Went into a 1990 dash. What year is your 240SX?

is it a HUD?
because those plugs are diffrent
all the rest should be the exact same
BUT are u using a SR or CA or are u using a KAE?
because the SR and DE are the same but the E is diffrent

what is teh redline. If the redline is red dashes starting at 7250 or 7000 (i cant remember) and then a solid red block from 7500+ its a CA18DET tach and will not work. If its a solid red block ONLY frmo 7500rpm on then its an SR tach and that means you should check your wiring at the ecu.

SR and E and DE should be the same.
I have an '89 and the '93 180sx SR plugged in no problem.

Damn, I think youre right… I thought the CA redline was higher than 7500. From your description it sounds like I have the CA cluster. Ah well, back to the drawing board.
p.s. …anyone want to buy a CA18DET gauge cluster? 8)

Fuel cut is higher on the CA, it’ll rev past 8000rpm, but yeah the literal “red line” is 7500 on it’s tach.

Dash/Solid Redline on the Tach = KA24E or CA18DE(T)
Solid Redline = KA24DE or SR20DE(T)
