i payed like $1200 for mine its a bushmaster a3 i know buffalo gun center had some cheaper ones but they were mostly a2’s. they did have a nice used colt for like $700 i was thinking about though but decided to go new.  
As for me leaving my gun out i was getting ready to leave and take it with me and went to take a shower a friend came over when i was taking it, i figured a 24 year old wouldnt be that stupid, but i was wrong.
