# Are extended warranties taxable?

Just bought an extended acuracare warranty and was charged sales tax on the transaction. Does anyone know if this is correct by NYS tax laws? Has anyone bought and extended warranty for a car in NYS and paid sales tax for it?

I paid tax on mine for my bike 3 years ago… i’d think so.

From what I remember off the top of my head yes, but you do not pay sales tax on service contract claims.

I can find something more offical when I get home.

this is NYS… its only a matter of time before your taxes are taxed
