# Atv Insurance ticket.

Over the 4th of July holiday I was riding up at my buddies place in wellsville and ended up getting pulled over and got a ticket for no registration and insurance. The reason why I didn’t have either was because I bought the quad a few days before the trip. I called up the dmv after the district attorney didn’t have an answer for us at the court appearance. The dmv claims that I’m getting charged as if I had no insurance on a car. They told me I have to pay $750 and that i’ll loose my license for a year. Btw I only had my license for 2 days prior to the accident. Any advice??

I never got pulled over. I was involved in an atv accident and he issued the tickets to me in the hospital. Its hickville out there and all the roads are seasonal.

i was gunna say if you got pulled over i would of just Run. i know its not the best thing to do but iv done it many times in the city in the winter no way are they gunna chase you

When i was 17, I did the same thing on a dirt bike, with only a permit. I went to court, and dam near cried like a girl, and got it dropped to a 300 dollar fine and 2 points. I lost cool points, but that no insurance ticket is a mother fucker. I love NYS and the BS rules. You can be a kid on a motor scooter thing and go all over the place with no issues, do it on a three wheeler, and your fucked.

Yeah one thing you learn down in the Southern Tier is to be insured/registered because there are cops everywhere out on those back roads, etc. just looking for reasons to issue ticket. Sucks, just plead not guilty, get it reduced to something cheaper and you’ll be fine.

^^ it’s the same situation if you got in an accident and were drinking to be issued a DWI at the hospital. This case not being as serious as that, but same rules apply.

I’ve had friends get no registration tickets on quads before but this no insurance is new to me. I have a feeling it was probably because you were in an accident. I never registered my quad but never stopped for cops on it either. If they wanted to take their car through a field to catch me I probably would have stopped out of respect. 😛

This is why I always kept my quad registered and insured back when I owned one. It doesn’t cost that much and it’s a big mess if you get busted riding illegally.
Always found it funny how many people I’d run into who would ask me why I bothered, only to be shocked when I explained how much trouble they could get in if they were caught. For fucks sake learn the laws that apply to your sport.

I’m not looking for any favors…I just want answers on if what the dmv said is true because I’ve gotten a different response from everyone I’ve talked to.
