# AVI video files

Quick question about AVI files…for some reason my computer plays mpeg and wmv video files fine, but when I play an AVI file there is no picture, only sound. Ive tried playing in realplayer and windows media player and both do the same thing. Pisses me off because i dowloaded a 700mb movie with DIAL UP and now cant watch it.

Codecs.

You need codecs. Do a search for them.

i downloaded one off of BearShare but it didn’t fix it. Are there any other places or maybe a web site to download codecs from?

Chances are if you are having issues playing avi files it’s in DivX format. It can be obtained at [divx.com](http://divx.com), just get the free package, remove what you don’t need when installing it.
