credit cards is how it’s done. one of my friends built his crx three times with his credit card, and each time parted it out. he was on the cover of honda-tuning as well.

Personal loans. Interest rate is lower. You get monies and you spend said monies, then must pay it off accordingly and constantly. # years later its paid for and you own it. Less likely to pay a little here, then say ohh shit I need something else and charge it again… never paying it off. credit cards are the devil if your irresponsible with your money.
If you partake in the correct projects, with the correct funding… even cars you can make money back when they are sold off. Dont look at it like a money pit project, do it like you would a business decision.

no matter what you tell yourself building cars are never smart buisness decisions. that’s why i’m gonna build the rx7 w cash, so i only build it with money i have, and it’s been a dream car of mine, i never want to sell it. so it can be a money pit.

Here’s an interesting build that I’ve been checking out every so often:

Quick rundown, he’s a well-known front runner with SCCA Solo, has a history of building ‘interesting’ cars for solo competition. And with the STX class, there’s a limited amount of parts-shuffling that can be done to build a car for that specific class. This just happens to be an ‘older’ platform to start with. :thumbup
I love it because I’ve worked on a handful of first generation Camaro restorations and this is always nice to see someone using that platform for competition.

Tell that to my fathers best friend growing up. He is an old skool hot rod guy, and was famous in the area for 2 projects. At the time an untouchable El Camino with “MasterCard” painted down the side. This guy is an amazing engineer and automotive wiz. Between the time he had the el camino he also had a few planes, countless cars, outlaw sprint car, hydroplanes, crazy rc cars, planes and helis’, sleds, etc. Ed had more toys backed into his shop its crazy! Quick story, one day I went over there and he had a brand new Bussa, one of the first ones produced. He went to a show room and said Ill take that one. The guy said do you know its supposed to do 200mph off the floor, he said yeah I want to find out if it will. about 5 miles into its life he was there fitting 2 cameras on the bike, one at the speedometer and one off the front forks then took it to the ari strip down the road from his shop.
then along came a flatbed with many big boxes, and a few months later “mastercard 2” was assembled. A Rotorway Exec 90 helicopter! Maxed out his credit card and bought, built and flew it all himself.
Rotorway found out about him and hired him on to build, inspect and flight train people all over the united states, making a great living doing what he loves.
if it wernt for the credit card… he never would have gotten a chance.
