Torque wins races. No need to rev to 10K if you have torque down low.

good points, so it would be better to keep my type R head and try to build a bottom end of a GSR? im looking for at least 11.5 compression

yawn, there is no replacement for displacement. A properly tuned b20V will make more torque and similar power as the rest. last thing id worry about is cracked sleeves. And the same goes for rod/stroke ratio,i wouldnt worry about it unless you want it to last 200,000+ miles like oem honda. But hey, what do i know. pay no attention.lol

> Good thing I made that up. Some FACTS are B20vtec motors (not saying there arent exceptions) Can rev high due to r/s ratios and weak stock sleeves. Just what I put in my previous post. So without building the block with sleeves, maybe even a block guard, apr studs and prolly some strong internals you wont be able to get full potential out of the setup. Type r/Gsr motors make power at peak rps, not crvs dont. Thanks for the imput tho 🙂
>
> _edit I was wrong about the name though, I meant “crvtec”_

Just because some douche on Honda-tech has an opinion, does not make it factual. And what I was referring to was this

“the sleeves are weak and cant handle the boost and on top of that the stroke of the motor is very long and cant handle the revs the type r head can give out.”

You fail again. Oh and please tell me the sleeves are weak again, one more time if you would. And learn how to spell.

different motors react differently, my 1.8T makes more Tq than Hp, and makes decent tq by 2k rpm. i bought a type R head for my honda track car, i want something “reliable” for enduro driving, ie running the car hard for 100miles at a time or at least hugging redline for at least an hour… anyway i just dont feel comfortable running high boost for prolonged periods of time. esprit had great success with their ek9 CTR/b20z setup on the track, i figure if its built right itl be fine

What I can’t stand is everyone that has never had a b20 or b20vtec has an opinion of them, and knows a guy, that knows a guy, that read on the internet that it blew up from this or that. Mine was stock bottom with stock gsr head. I ran the piss out of it. I would hit redline every time I hit the gas. I would run it at 5k+ rpms routinely for hours. It is just s bullet proof as any other stock honda motor.

If you want real power, you’d do a k-swap.

k swap = lots of money…
Ive never had crvtec, so I dont know first hand. All I know is from the research Ive done on them. When I hear so many people say “its unreliable” i guess I just believe them. Im not saying that if he does it the motor will blow up, theres exceptions to everything, no motor is exacally alike, one might blow while another can run for 200k. Im just saying whats the point? Why drop reliability for .2 liters? Ive built my fair share of Honda motors and my opinion is sell the head you have and buy a swap. Thats all.

K-swaps are getting cheap. We aren’t talking about a budget build, we are talking about a reliable race car. It’s worth the money.

First of, it’s a 10% increase in displacement. Second, NA b20 motors are just as reliable as any other. The block won’t like 300hp, but you’ll never get that from NA anyway. Moral of the story is that if you don’t have first hand knowledge, then your opinion is worthless. Stop posting on something you don’t know about. (and that goes out to everyone, not just Johnnyv412).
