this is a good tip  I like that one.

That’s a very good point that has been neglected here…

If You are running 2ga, fuse it at the battery with 150-200 amp (max) fuse. It’s a $3 investment that is worth the value of You car… possibly life.

I would use a high current circuit breaker. They’re available at most all car audio shops. that will also allow you to cut battery power when storing or working on it without disconnecting the battery terminal.

I’ve seen more circuit breakers _fail to open_ under load then I’ve seen fuses fail to pop.

$0.02.

He’s right. Fuses very very rarely fail to blow. Breakers hang up much more frequently.

I would use 0ga. You need to make sure you vent it properly too. But since you’re using an Craptima they’re sealed and do not create gasses like normal wet cells do. Also maybe consider putting it on the passenger side instead because you are less likely to have a passenger, where there will always be a driver. For weight purposes. Just my advice.

ok then, it’s 0 ga. passenger side, 200 amp fuse, grounded to the underside of the car under the storage bin and up front in the stock location, insulated and sealed properly and thats pretty much it…right

I think 0 ga. is overkill, my car never had any signs of a weak battery (even after the car sat for 6 months), but what do I know, I only tried it on my own FD.

Yes except - 0ga is overkill.

Unless You are running alot of accesories / amplifiers / 12v shit… You are not going to need 1/ott. Go with 2ga wire, save Yourself $0.50/foot.

Why risk it? Just do it now and save yourself a headache later. How long could it possibly be? Plus you want minimal loss in the distance anyways, which I believe someone showed the calculation for earlier. I stand by my vote for 0ga.

i ran 1g… kinda over kill but it was dirt cheap on ebay… then i bought some stupid power distribution block that are supposed to be used for systems n shit like that… but it has a spot for up to 0g going in and 2 spots for 4g coming out of it… one goes to my starter n one goes to my fuse box… the block has 2 100amp fuse’s and a little screen that displays how many volts are present.

Just curious, what car is this happening in…and why do you want to relocate the battery?

Reading helps

> I am going to move the battery out of the engine bay to clean things up, it’s going in the storage bin behind the drivers seat. I am going to get a Optima red top and i was thinking of using 4 ga. cable. Is 4 ga. big enough? I don’t have any extra accessories like amps or anything else drawing extra current, I just want the best power transfer. Let me know if anyone has some input.

Do you think it was possibly put in the engine bay not to appeal the eye, but to serve an engineering purpose?

Most battery locations in common vehicles are selected on the basis of convenience and economy. This is not a race car. When one tries to bring a regular car closer to race spec you move the battery away from the heaviest end of the car.
