so my g/f wants to buy a new laptop. she is looking at a toshiba

SHe is looking to spend around $500, she’s going to use it for school…(essays ect) and the internet…and to upload photos and download music…
Can anyone suggest somethign better?

I was highly considering one of those when I bought my laptop…a little bit nicer model, but I had found Toshiba to be one of the better ones out there. Acer makes a bunch of them for around that price range, my gf has one and its pretty much a total pile of crap, so I’d stay away from those.

I have this one and so does my girlfriend. Love them. I have XP Pro on mine, and she has XP Home.

core 2 duo + \>1gb ram + warranty is about all you need to be concerned with

i have a acer aspire, 2 gig ram, duo, cd/dvd burner, 15.5’ lcd, intragrated graphics card :tdown:, and 80gig mem; that i got for 470… great pos that i can throw around and download shit on, play games and fill up with nonsence…
when i purchased it, it came with only 1 gig ram but get another stick, its worth it!

bump, cuz i want something newer for work etc etc too… something better than my Sony vaio 2.66 ghz P4, 256 or 512 ram (dont remember) 40 gig hard drive, its about 5 years old now… but id like to spend less than more, and Id like it to last too… (my vaio never gave me any issues, knock on wood)

i got the vostro 1500 when they had the $500 off deal on them, ordered it w/ xp home cuz it was cheaper, ran 3dmark03 straight out of the box and got a 9429, wiped it clean right after and did a fresh install of xp pro w/ all updated drivers and patches etc, ran the same 3dmark03 again and got a 10686 before i started tweaking the registry settings. but i’ve been very pleased w/ my vostro.
