I was thinking about modern welding school… I need to look into it more… I already know how to MIG/tig pretty well. Too many details to get into right now 🙂 ---

Mohawk valley has for more superior program for weldin and it has a machinist course rolled into… FUCK MODERN LETERALLY !!! saver ur monies. ---

I mean dont get me wrong. modern is ok. but they way they do it , it’s like ur just practicing for a test constantly. it’s DEFINATELY training for real world work. i know nothing will ever get u fully trained to get out in the field . but like i said the more geared for teaching u to pass a test. just cause u can pass a test doesn’t mean u can weld… i can explain better . but i suck at typing and it takes me forever. but hopefully u get the point. ---

A buddy of mine went to Modern Welding School. He just graduated actually. He enjoyed it but there was a TON of testing. They helped place him with a job right out of the school too. Even before he was done with the program they had already lined him up with his job. ---

First ask yourself what you plan to do with the welding knowledge you will learn. Looking for knowledge to become a better welder? Looking to get a small fabrication welding job? Are you planning DOT or structural work? Submerged arc desire? I say this because depending on what you want to do, there’s different plans of attack. If you’re just looking to become a better welder, or even just get a small time fabrication job…forget getting a degree. Take the money you’d otherwise spend and go buy a GOOD welding setup. Teach yourself, or buy books/videos/read. If you’re so up to throwing money for lesson, beg me and I’ll teach you for a fee :lol Point is unless you’re going for a full on contract welding career going to “school” for welding is not the best approach. I agree with Hank…Modern is a waste. I’m a trained and AWS certified structural welder/weld inspector, but HATE contract welding. Hate it. So I do what I do now with the knowledge I gained but alot of what I learned I don’t apply to my work(not necessary) and as such it was money that could have been spent better. Just food for thought. ---

Hunts is not the best place to “bug” me as if I’m there I’m typically right into something major for Dave and on a tight time schedule, or running the machines for my own work. I have no problem giving you a few lessons when things loosen up a bit here at the garage in the schedule. I suggest buying a good TGAW book and do some technical reading, get some aspects of it down first especially in prep work. Only thing you’d need to bring here is a comfortable pair of gloves, proper clothing, and some $$$ for any consumables you use in the process(s.gas, filler, etc).
