# better beater truck

Looking to pick up a beater truck. Either a 2.2 S10 or 2.3 ranger. Any pros or cons to either? Looking for something that will be cheap and easy to replace parts on as needed.

Both are complete bags of shit, but I prefer working on GMs if I must go domestic.

I like my S10 “beater”. The 2.2 is balls slow but hey it gets the job done.
When are you looking to buy. I might end up selling mine

go with the s10. theyre great trucks and if you go 5speed with that 2.2 youre looking at 26-28mpg. parts are easy to find, and pretty cheap. i know alot of people that have put high miles on them and loved the trucks.

older rangers are a fucking pain in the cock to maintain. I got mine for $400 but spent over $1000 in parts alone to “maintain” it over my 3yrs of ownership. I did balljoints twice in three years, rear leaf spring shackles, u-joints, power steering pump and idler pulley, starter welded itself stuck, and containing the spread of rust was/is nearly impoosible…it had one tiny bubble when I got it and it ate the whole sides of the bed by the time I got rid of it. Oh, and the last 6 months I had to deal with an ungodly humming from the transmission’s rear carrier bearing shitting out on me and my utter refusal to replace it.
got about 28mpgs though.
