# Black top???Red top??

S13 Redtop  
S13 Blacktop  
Not much difference between these two motors.

S14 Blacktop  
T28 Turbo and VVT

thats the basic answers, if you are looking for more info just do a few web searches.

Red tops are older, and generally have more mileage. Mechanincally speaking, as Whitey said theres not much different.

his mechanic told him so, the brace on the oil pickup on the red top is attached to the shaft and the brace on the blacktop is attached to the bulb. some people have had the bulb fall off and starve the engine of oil.

Yup I forgot about that difference… you’d think i’d remember, since thats the reason my sr20 spun a bearing.
