thats cuz most race cars are automatics 😉

i agree with the rest of the shit tho…id rather save my expensive turbo than have a little less psi drop

i was just making a point, shoulda made it more clear. they dont use one cuz they arent off the ass all the way down the track. and the only purpose of a bov is to save turbos

i beg to differ.

click the link i posted above, and read my post in that thread. pick up tuning forced induction cars there are a couple chapters dedicated to the history of the turbo, wastegate, and BOV. the BOV was not designed to keep the compressor alive, that was just a nice side effect. keeping it from surging, aka spinning the wrong damn direction, makes it spool up again much faster… ie less lag.
its a great book for the shitter.

some day when i unpack i will find the book agian, and you can borrow it if you want.

so to sum up this whole thread and to get things straight

closer to the turbo will save the turbo from compressor surge but cause a little more lag cause you lost pressure through the intercooler

closer to the TB could possibly cause surge but will keep some pressure

SRT 4

no
click the link i posted and read my post in that thread

leaving it closer to the compressor should only vent what NEEDS to be vented, leaving the rest of the air in the pipe.

no shit? really?
thats pretty cool.

Your physics is flawed. If the sense line is on the intake, the BOV opens when ever it senses a vacuum in the intake, and opens the BOV. So if the BOV opens when its placed near the TB, how would the pressure in the intake rise to damage the turbo, it can’t and won’t. If the BOV is near the turbo, it will dump all the pressure by venting air from the turbo, and the intake tubing and intercooler air will stop flowing, and will lose its velocity. Now when you stab the throttle you have to accelerate all that air, you will get a surge in pressure from the stored pressure in the intake, but once that is dumped the turbo will have to work overtime to accelerate all that air. If the BOV is placed near the TB, when it opens all of the air will maintain its velocity, and when you stab the throttle the BOV slaps shut and your off and running, everything is working because you never slowed that intercooler air down. Now on a street car you will never notice this, and the BOV in any position will protect all components. But the BOV wasn’t initally designed as a component savior, it was ment to keep the air moving in the intake side for road race cars. Many (not all) drag cars have the BOV if installed close to the throttle body for the same reason. If they waste all the energy to build boost, why not get all the air in the intercooler and piping moving at the same time.
