# Brake fluid.. Whats good?

1997 240sx
Z Brakes in front (freshly rebuilt)
Stock rear calipers with prolly HPS pads or something
SS lines all around. (of the finest quality I might add ;))
I am going to do a complete system flush before I bolt on the new fronts.
The car is going to be a weekend cruiser and Drift slut for the summer, stored winters.
So… what brake fluid should I use for this? Will Dot 5 be ok?
Some stuff I have heard about:
ATE super blue
Motul rbf600
Where can you find this stuff around here?

RBF600 if you plan an lapping, but for drift theo regular Valvoline DOT4 will be fine.

If price is no option, can you buy the best possible stuff even if you only go to the track every so often? Or is race brake fluid no good for street? (Like using race compound brake pads on the street.)

Well there may be a lapping day in there once in a while.
I’d be interested in the answer to Logic’s question too, like is it ok to go overboard even if you might not use the full potential of the high quality fluid more than 2wice in a season?

Castrol SRF
Endless RF-650
Motul RBF-600
Project mU
The Castrol has the highest wet boiling point out of all of them, Project mU the highest dry, but they’re all fairly comparable.
There’s no downside to running good brake fluid.
Good fluid is good because it resists heat and water retention, but it’s not like metal pads, or other brake upgrades. It will work just as well as OEM fluid in day-to-day situations, it likely just won’t coke up and break down as fast.

If you can afford too, yeah. The one time you go lapping you might boil the regular stuff, in which case you will have to bleed the brakes again.
RBF600 is about 25 bucks per 500mL. Dry boiling point is almost 600F.
That being said, running good pads is a must as well.

I use Motul rbf600 with the same setup Theo… works VERY well for me.
But of course being an S13 its lighter unlike your tank, but I’m sure it will work fairly well for you too.

Another question, how much approx would be needed to do the entire system? will 1l do me for the system plus a little for future top ups if needed?

I used 1.5 bottles to bleed my entire brake system on my Altima when I change my MC. (Just as reference.)

I used almost 2 bottles to flush the system really well. I think I picked it up at JRP in Oakville.

Its not rocket science. Are you fading your brakes on the track and or boiling fluid?
If you want to make ir rocket science keep track of brake temperature with a temp gun whenever you come into pits.

there is no research. Run the car with DOT4 fluid…if you find its boiling and brakes fade run higher temp fluid. I got away with DOT4 for years, when I use to do drift events. Now that i’m doing grip, I found with higher grip tires like R’s I was able to boil the DOT4 with stock power. Last year all I did was bleed my brakes after every event, this year I’m upgraded to rbf600 so I don’t have to go through the hasle.
Also, change your thinking, u don’t need power to put down fast laps. Its all suspension and chassis tuning and driver.

lol. yeah i knwo powers not everyting. im still learing about my suspsension shit. i alreayd ahve coils and stb.
im gettin a lot of bars to reenfoce the body but the major things that i will be purchasin will be a two way diff, full multlllink kit. and a good set of sway bars. and i have a guy who does alignemtn on race cars to help me out wiht that department.
