# bringing a car over from canada

i want to bring a parts car over from canada. what issues am i going to run in to?
the car is never going to be registered here, its just getting stripped and then sent to the scrapyard.

My buddy works for a customs broker, i can ask him about it. He knows clearence codes for beaver pelts and porn so he might know a little about this.

you probably still have to switch the speedo and get a letter of compliance and a free-of-recalls letter

really? im just using it for some parts, and then dropping it off at the scrap yard. i may even just cut it up and toss it in a dumpster.

still might be tough. i mean if they were cool with it you could just bring a skyline over for parts, since canada has a 15 year import rule instead of 25. but i dont think thats the case
the only time i got around the canadian border was when i bought a motorcycle in toronto that had not been titled in canada; still had an american title. I just said i already owned it and was just storing it in canada.

If your trailering it over, it shouldnt be a problem. Just say your taking it to the US for repairs. People bring their cars to the US for repairs all the time.

haha, that would be sooo funny, picture a shell and john behind the wheel of a truck and trailor with this rusty a$$ 240 on the trailor.

why not cut up what you need there and bring it to a scrap yard/ lake erie over there?

Not sure if this info will help or not b/c its a slightly different situation, but here are some notes from a guy who brought a passat syncro shell over.
_**well i planned on dropping the back part of the shell at the junkyard, but got there too late
so i decided to cross the border like that, had no problems, thank god**_
_**the thing is that the Passat is a Non-Conforming Vehicle according to the NHSTA (like a Rallye Golf) so you cant import it unless you go through a Registered Importer (AKA Ripoff Artist)**_
_ **so i figured cutting it would render it unuasable as a shell and it worked** _
_ **since i could never Title or Register it in the US the shell was useless to me anyways** _
_ **FYI the Duty Free limit on car pats from Canada is $800 USD** _
