First self induced error of the winter rebuild…

I assumed that terminals 30/87/86/85 were in the same physical location on two different brands of relays. They were not, and sparks flew when the electric fan came on last week:haha

No biggie, problem corrected. Replaced the relays so they are all new and the same brand.

Getting a little done this weekend, will try to post some pics later.

Weekend progress update!

Lesson learned-a fuel solenoid won’t open if it’s trying to suck current thru a 30’ 16AWG test lead.

Anyway, here’s a quick vid@1500 rpm or so

All of the wiring needs cleanup, but I wanted to test it all before that. You can see the nitrous fuel system tank, and the line running to the fuel solenoid.

I normally don’t mention this kind of shit…but when I uploaded the vid, the captcha code was “Father Time”…

Productive day, but not to much to show visually…

I wanted the nitrous fuel system, nitrous system, and electric fan to shut off with the main power switch in the back of the car. The way that I had it wired before, it would not. So, I hooked up one relay before the 3 relays the feed the aforementioned stuff, and am triggering that relay with the switch at the back of the car. The ignition system was previously triggered by that switch, so all I had to do was tap into the ignition box power wire for the relay trigger. It made for a nice, short run of wires in/out of the relay, since it’s being fed from the alternator.

The next challenge that I was up against is the hobbs switch that shuts down the entire nitrous system in the event of a loss of nitrous system fuel pressure. The idea was straightforward, but the problem is, is that right at the nitrous fuel solenoid, the fuel pressure drops for a FRACTION of a second when the solenoid opens. With a hobbs right there, it would kick the nitrous system off and on…

The fix for this is just to simply feed the hobbs switch fuel pressure from the regulator, vs. right at the solenoid. The fuel pressure is much more stable at the regulator vs. right at the solenoid.

We also installed the nitrous system fuel pressure gauge in the car today. This way, when I arm the nitrous system, I’ll be able to verify fuel pressure in the car. Used a Glow Shift gauge…Autometer FP gauges are just too expensive and we are trying to save money where possible. 75 bucks shipped for the gauge and 2 gauge pillar pod.

Cleaned up a few wires but still have a bunch to do. I’m not looming anything until everything is in place and to final length.

Heat wrapped some of the starter wires, and installed a tranny bolt that I had previously removed for access.

Changed the nitrous activation from 3000 to 3500 to start this season. Better for the motor and probably better for traction too. We have chips from 3-4K to see what works best.

Ok, a few in progress pics-

Another fairly low production weekend, but I did get some of the hardware for the front bumper, and also ensured that the new hood bolts up correctly. Dropping it off for paint this week. Wideband will be installed this upcoming weekend and hopefully will also get the bumper secured.

Hood dropped off for paint, picking up methanol next week. Should be headed to the track on March 25th or April 1st if all goes well!

Good process today, all obstacles considered…

Bumper cover mounted, minus ~75lbs! Need a new lower grill and some other cosmetic touch ups, but it’s structurally sound-all we really care about.

If you look back in this thread, you’ll see that it now has a dedicated nitrous fuel delivery system, totally independent of the cars fuel system. It can use gasoline or methanol, we’re using methanol (and pump gas in the cars tank).

Looks great TT. Even if the car ran a 15 I’d be happy knowing I worked on it with my old man.
