See why risk NOT having it? Something bad can happen anywhere. Of course a gun isn’t the first thing you’d use in a bad situation, its a last resort. It isn’t hard to be a responsible gun carting individual, well if you are rational intelligent person of course.

People should be allowed to drink, smoke, swallow, marry, and carry whatever the fuck they want.

I definitely don’t disagree with you. Guns are only as dangerous as the person operating them. 99% of the time they don’t just randomly go off without user interaction. That being said, you should really only need it if you’re putting yourself in bad situations. Yes, I know home robberys, self defense, etc. etc. But typically walking around Buffalo, you’re not going to need one.

Unfortunately some people shouldn’t own guns:

I’m not anti-gun control whats so ever but sometimes your hands/feet and head are the only weapons you need. Just saying.

Not singling you out on this, just talking on the point of your question. I respect everyones views on this, just stating my own perspective.

The problem is that laws apply to everyone. While I’m sure you and everyone else in this thread is capable of handling a gun and knowing when to use or not to use it, not all people have that decision making process down. That is often overlooked. The truth is people don’t know how they will handle a gun in a pressure situation. This is where a trained police officer comes in. Chances are when you pull a gun on someone; bad things are bound to happen. I can just see bar fights breaking out with drunken idiots pulling guns or someone trying to be a hero and shooting an innocent person, getting themselves killed instead of running, etc. If bad things are already happening, it might not be the best decision either and the problems may be compounded at that point. It’s easy to break up a fist fight; it’s not easy to break up a gun fight.

I just think that too many people feel they can handle a gun that cannot. That’s nothing to say about their ability to hit a target, rather good decision making. If the rationale is that you’re going to have the gun on you to keep yourself protected in bad situations, why not just avoid being in places where trouble may occur? If you’re walking on a bad city street at night, you kinda deserve to get mugged lol. If you’re smart enough to know when to carry, then you should be smart enough to not put yourself in a bad situation. Period.

That being said, someone walks into my house at night and it’s going to be shoot first and ask questions later. 🙂 I think that Americans should be able to protect their homes and their families and have the right to bear arms, but not in social settings where innocent people can be injured.

I guess when you’ve seen things like this happen before, your perspective changes a little on what is cool and what is really necessary.:orly:

You can’t conceal carry in bars btw

This ia how I view it.

> I’d like to finish up here with the principle of the sheep and the sheepdog. Most people in this world are sheep. They live out their lives content with everything anddon’t really pay attention to things going on around them. Then there are the sheepdogs. The sheepdog is always among the sheep. Unlike the passive sheep the sheepdog is always on the alert. He is all too aware that wolves are waiting for him to relax his resolve so they can attack the sheep. That’s why the noble sheepdog is always aware and forever vigilant because when the wolf comes the sheepdog knows he is the only hope for the sheep.

I never miss a chance to point and laugh at buffalo (for no real reason), but I too hate these fucking lists. People quote them as gospel. Truth is, the writers probably have never been to half the places.

I’ve been considering getting my CCW permit, but I doubt I would carryin most situations. Maybe put a holster under the seat in the car? I would like to get a pistol for home protection though.

True, but that doesn’t mean people won’t when the gun is already on them.

IIRC you CAN carry in a bar. Its HIGHLY frowned upon.
If your carry correctly, no one should know your carrying.
If your drinking and have it with you, your asking for trouble.
Whats that saying? " Better to be jusdged by 12 than carried by 6"?

Wait

So why would someone who can legally carry a concealed weapon break the law?

Edit: I stand corrected you can carry concealed in bars in NY…I have been spending a lot of time in the south lately and every bar has signs reminding you that you can’t carry.

He’s saying we need gun control because gun control doesn’t work.

Well, actually he isn’t necessarily advocating for gun control law. So far he’s only said carrying isn’t a good idea. I can see where he’s coming from, given how retarded most people are.

There’s a difference between wanting a law and wanting a behavior. I.E. I generally don’t think anyone should have an abortion or do drugs. I don’t think either should be against the law.

I’m not that simpleminded my friend. I believe that gun laws always need to be reviewed and made better. And just because someone CAN get away with something doesn’t mean it should be legal. That’s poor logic and a defeatist attitude.

If it helps you to understand where I stand on guns:
If I had to pick between someone having the right to own a gun vs. not, I would side with the right to own every time. That doesn’t mean, I don’t want definition around what those rights entail.

This is correct. I would have just said it with correct grammar.

I could tell you all about having a shotgun in the workplace when allowed by the owner as well. 😉

I do business with a company on Grider, whenever I went there I would have to bang on the door and the guy would open it with a deadblow hammer in his hand. Now he answers with a pistol.
If Byron Brown gave me one of the hundreds of empty buildings and told me no property taxes for 50 years I might think about moving my business there but anything less would be a “no thanks”. (Not that Byron Brown wants any new private business in Buffalo.)

The city has all these problems but doesn’t do anything to help. Detroit had falling home values and gave middle to upper middle people first time money for buying a house in certain areas. Buffalo could easily do it with a lot of the city but no, why would we want to get more tax paying people with extra money into the city.
