Chicago For some reason it makes me angry, just because of the calibur of the other cities. What makes buffalo so special? county taxes? This is more of rant that we are ranked so high versus what the actual prices are. discuss. ---

That is really odd, part of gas prices is supposedly how hard it is to get to the people. Its not exactly hard to bring it to buffalo since theres no traffic and less people are using so demand can’t be that high… ---

Has to be be NYS taxes… We are the second largest city in NYS and have the second highest county taxes in the state I think. ---

I wonder if rochester is a big enough city to show up on the survey? They should have the same prices as us. ---

those numbers are pretty deceiving though. The problem is that every city has suburbs and you have to take that into account. Not to mention, I have seen some pretty high prices at rest stops and such, but I doubt those types of places are up there. It says NYC is pretty high, does that mean NYC and surrounding suburbs, cause I would imagine that NYC as well as westchester, Long Island, and parts of Conn. and New Jersey all have around the same prices. I think that you will find that gas prices are high all around NYS ---

Taxes play a huge part. Here’s the tax breakdown for gas in NYS. Fixed Taxes: Federal Tax - $0.18 per gallon New York State Petroleum Business Tax - $0.183 per gallon New York State Spill Tax - $0.030 per gallon New York State Petroleum Testing Fee - $0.005 per gallon Variable Taxes: New York State Sales Tax – 4 percent of pre-tax sales price Erie County Sales Tax – 4.75 percent of pre-tax sales price ---

The Costco in Nanuet was $2.89 when I Filled up yesterday. Then again if you live this side of the tappanzee you have to pay a $4 toll to get there. ---

[/quote] Buffalo City Population: 292,648 Metropolitan area: 1,154,378 Rochester City Population: 216,000 Metropolitan area: 1,039,028 for Buffalo ‘metropolitan area’ is erie + niagara county totals, I’m not sure if all of that is considered suburbs of Buffalo or not. Still you are only looking at 37 cents in takes per gallon. WIthout that you are still looking at ~2.90 gas…so sad. ---

Prices as reported from GasBuddy (i.e. [rochestergasprices.com](http://rochestergasprices.com), they have domains for most cities and areas): **Rochester:** Today 3.275 Yesterday 3.283 One Week Ago 3.291 One Month Ago 3.247 One Year Ago 2.448 **Buffalo** Today 3.224 Yesterday 3.278 One Week Ago 3.286 One Month Ago 3.247 One Year Ago 2.440 so yeah pretty much the same. When I was home in Greenwich (CT) over break gas prices there sucked a lot more. --but yeah it’s a small town so it wouldn’t show in that listing. 3.45 being the lowest gas price in the area for 87 in the past 48 hours. Times like these I really appreciate getting 37.4mpg (yes calculated, not EPA figures) in the rental corolla… and it’s an autotragic even! ---
