# Caliper Seizure

Hey guys,
Recently my rear caliper seized up on my way back from Ottawa. I noticed when I got home, that my wheel/rim became black and full of this coppery dust almost looked like rust. I tried to remove it and it simply will not come off.
I have tried the following chemicals:
SOS Pads
Gasoline
Goo Gone
Eagle One All Wheel Cleaner
Maguire Wheel Cleaner
None of these chemicals seem to remove these little copper/black spots. What is causing these sports to form??
Has anyone ever had this problem??? Can anyone recommend a fantastic product that would clean this mess up??
Any help would be appreciated.

I had that problem not to long ago. Had to replace the caliper, it was casuing massive heat build up. But i caught it before the rotor had the symptoms your describing now. From the sounds of it, your rotor overheated due to the seized caliper.

I changed my calipers. But it had left spots on my rims. Which I cannot seem to remove. These pictures should help clarify everything.
Above I listed the chemicals I used the try and remove them, but they still won’t come off.

are those marks 3 demensional?
they are likely pieces of the brake pad that were so hot they melted into the clearcoat/rim

That’s what I was thinking. It’s probably not so much brake dust but clearcoat damage. ie. you wont be able to “clean” it off.

yea, looks like brake dust that was so hot it etched the metal. Get some 1000 grit sand paper and give the lip a wetsand, You’ll have to polish them up after though.

The problem is the crap hitting your rim was super hot. You more then likely have a clear coat on those rims.
If thats true then it has burnt into the clear.
What kind of rims are you running?

Okay I understand the problem… Where do I go to get this issue resolved??? Do I need to go to a body shop? A rim repair shop?? Where?
The problem has been diagnosed I need a solution now.
