Flame all you want but I have a question about cutouts. I would like a little more sound out of my tundra but do not want to spend 500+ on exhaust. I have no intentions or need for more power.
1. Anyone have any bad luck with eBay electronic cutouts? Especially after winter?
2. The exhaust is 2 off the motor, 2 cats and 2 into one muffler. Then 1 out. Do you think just installing one cutout on one of the pipes before the muffler would be ok or do you back pressure I should buy two?
3. For those who actually had them, what brand did you use?

ive been wanting to put a set of these on the c10 but I was looking at the summit racing ones vs the QTP.
but been reluctant to pick up a set since all said and done it will prob end up being around $450/500

I ran the QTP electric motor units on my BMW for a couple years and they took a shit early, I have hated the electric motors ever since (couldn’t even get service parts for them). FWIW I ran them year round and the salt/corrosion/snow really took its toll on them. You will probably encounter the same seeing as it’s on your truck, which I assume you drive year round. I also hated the slow response time and having to hold the button like 5 seconds before they fully opened/closed.
Last year I designed and built a system for my Vette using normally closed vacuum actuated cutouts. Almost no moving parts - just the butterfly valve and a small linkage rod to the diaphragm. Vacuum is sourced from the brake booster line and is sent to a universal Dorman vacuum reservoir for a Ford application that I mounted in the trunk. When I push the 12V+ on/off switch (choose whichever type you like), it energizes a small ACDelco EGR solenoid (off some 90s Chevy truck) that sends the vacuum to the cutouts, snapping them open (from completely shut to fully open in well under a second). Turn off the switch and the solenoid has power removed from it, dumping the vacuum in the line and snapping shut the cutouts (again in well under a second, handy when you’re passing the fuzz).

I had a Doug’s gate-style on my truck and lasted about 3 years, but took it off during the winters. Finally stopped working so just installed a turndown right after the resonator. Cutouts are fun until they shit the bed, they will eventually fail.
I love the sound with just the turndown, stay out of the throttle around my neighborhood though as it shakes windows lol.
