# Can you update a Treo 700w?

Got a used Treo from a friend cuz the wife didn’t like her current phone. Just bought new batteries for it, activated the line on it and went. Weird thing happens sometimes when she’s on a call - the phone like reboots. Goes to the Treo screen, starts all over again.
Is this a software problem or hardware? Does the phone need to be updated? Can it? How?

That’s an old phone. Probably long overdue for a hard reset (like reformatting for phones.)
How do I perform a hard reset?
A hard reset will erase everything on your device. All your data will be removed; preferences and other settings will be restored to factory default settings. Do not perform a hard reset unless you’ve backed up your data or you are willing to lose it.
Press the battery door release and slide the battery door downward to remove.
While pressing the Power / End button, insert the tip of the stylus into the Reset Hole and hold for approximately two seconds then release.
When prompted to Erase All Data, press Up with the 5-way navigation pad.

I try that, thanks. She’s only got phone numbers on there for now.
I noticed the phone has ActiveSync. When I had a Q9M I used ActiveSync to add stuff, does it also work to do software/firmware updates?

No its not a palm pre. ActiveSync just syncs your contacts and messages with an exchange email server usually in a corporate environment.

It won’t, sorry to be a Debbie downer but my old 700 used to do that all of he time
