# car inspection question?

how do codes really work for emissions? had this problem last year, but the code went away thankfully. this time it wont. i really need my car for my job, as i drive to philly twice a month. im not looking for anything illegal, just asking if there is a way around a ses for emsiions?

Won’t pass with the SES light on. Do you know why? There might be a work around.

What code is it again?
Most likely, you could take it to a shop with a good scan tool that can show you when the computer sees the fault and possibly whatever sensor and what its doing.

it is from the 1st o2 sensor, it is reading range 1/bank1 /performance. not sure. i know its from the header i have on the car. i dont have a stock 1 or id swap it back on for inspection.

What county do you live in…if you know someone who lives in a non emission county, like armstrong or lawrence you dont have to pass emissions.

there is a way but you’ll never find anyone to do it for you. you’re pretty much asking a mechanic to cheat an emissions test and risk his license/the shops license + a fine
the way an OBD-II hook up works is this. the machine checks and records the VIN and PCM ID(you cannot swap in a pcm from another vehicle without changing the vin). it then checks for any mil commanded on and readiness checks the monitors. 96-00 you can have 2 monitors not complete and 01+ only one. this is for evap as it usually doesn’t run in the winter months.
your car will not complete a monitor before it knows if there is a concern. if you’re having trouble getting monitors to complete it likely means something failed and you’re going to set a check engine light soon.
also i forgot to mention your monitors run in order. your on-demand monitors will run first. misfire, fuelsys, ccm go first. when those pass it’ll check your O2 switching and heater functionality. that passes it’ll likely run an egr test, then cat and last evap. i think that’s all of them, someone will surely chime in if i’m wrong

i was gonna mention a waiver but you’ll have a hard time finding someone to do it with an obvious header installed
you do have to spend $150 parts/labor towards fixing the concern in order to qualify for one
