after going to the last track event, my car seems to make a whinning noise whenever i press the gas. the sound sounds like a supercharger, literally. it happens whenever i accelerate in gear, OR out of gear. if i’m just parked and i rev it up i still hear the sound. it is VERY noticable and very consistent and smooth. no change in performance really, just the added sound. i am assuming its engine related since even when im standing still i am able to hear it. anyone have an idea? ---

is it a whining from the engine bay or posably through your speakers even with the sterio off? you could have nocked your grounds around a bit at the track. Mael ---

no the whinning is coming from underneath the car it seems. i thought it was an exhaust leak but there is no loss in power and does NOT bog. i will check the engine bay tho, i only stuck my head out the door to hear it. and the whinning does happen when the stero is off or on, no difference. what type of grounds would you be referring to? its a pretty consistent whine, exactly like a superhcarger, if not louder and more noticable. i kinda like the sound tho lol. i know my vavle springs are loose tho…maybe something in the engine is going and is resonating thru the exhaust system? hrmmmm ---

tranny maybe throw out bearing or the piece that the throw out slides on I had that broken once with about the same resalt just from stuff bouncing around. Mael ---

its probably your alternator…my car does the same thing cuz the alternator is ready to burn out…does your battery light get brighter as you slow down or stop at a light? ---

My 1999 cavalier did that just before the alternator dropped a big brown log. ---

push your clutch in and see if it stops… it could be your throw out bearing… ---

guarentee its your trans. either tob or pilot bushing. mine makes the same noise, next time when your parked…put your foot on the clutch pedal, and lisen. rev and lisen…i can bet it wont make that noise. welcome to nissan transmissions ---

i rev it with the clutch DISENGAGED and NOT in gear and it makes this sound. also makes it when i’m accelerating. i dont think its the tranny, i think it could be the alternator. i will check belts, thanks avery ---

have you tried reving it with the clutch engaged? my trans makes noise with foot off clutch, with foot on, no noise ---

When altenator bearings go, it makes that sound, same with water pumps. ---

water pump is really easy to install. well at least on dohc ka’s and redtops in s13 chassis, im sure it wont be to hard for you, just watch your engine temp!!! but try wtih foot on and foot off the clutch and see what happins ---

it seems that konvokiller is right. i tried reving it with the clutch in and the noise is pretty much gone. i guess its the TOB, how much life left till it goes? and what happends when it goes? is it the slider that the TOB is on or the TOB itself? ---

Hey samson, when my TOB finally went, I couldn’t get into gear properly and the car kept stalling too and stuff, it was weird.
