What do you guy use?

My citi card at one time gave me 5% on gas, groceries and pharmacy and 1% on everything else. Then it went to 3% and I just got the note that it is dropping to 1% on everything and a rotating system of bonus dollars.

So I’m looking for something new. I see the Amex has a decent cashback card but I figured I would see what input others can provide.

discover has pretty good deals. You get 5% on online purchases through select partners. Then every month they change the cashback on regular purchases. It’s always 5% but on different stuff. Some months it’s gas, some groceries, some restaurants, etc…

Yeah citi has the same kind of online thing. I really want something that does not rotate.

Just looked up the Amex Blue Cash

> Your Rebate is awarded annually for each Rebate Year (12 consecutive billing periods) in the form of a statement credit. For the first $6,500 of Eligible Purchases, the rebate is 1.0% for Everyday Purchases and 0.5% for all other Eligible Purchases; for Eligible Purchases of $6,500.01 or more, the rebate percentage is 5.0% for Everyday Purchases and 1.25% for all other Eligible Purchases.
>
> Everyday purchases are supermarkets, gas stations and drugstores

Everything looks good other than the low cash for the first $6,500

Discover. it seems to be accepted more places than my Amex. It has 5% back offers on common things most of the time, i.e.: gas, groceries, restaurants, etc. I received over $100 back this year, so it’s worth it.

I’d go with discover. It’s now run thru the same company (global payments or w/e) as visa/mc so more places are taking it. Amex is hit or miss whether its taken or not when I use mine, plus the online interface is kind of a pita.

If you want a mainly gas card go Discover Open Road card…its 3% on gas all the time.

Yeah I have looked at discover but things like Jan - Mar was travel only, or Apr - Jun was home and fashion. That is not going to work best for me.
Like I said before I would rather not rotate what is 5%, since that is what I have now for citi. For Jul - Sep I wil get 5% on restaurants, hotel, and on car rentals

There is more to a CC than just cash back, there are quite a few benefits to a AmEx if you don’t have one already…

I have an Amex Business Platinum in the pocket for airline clubs, warranties and other benefits. But I don’t use it much for everyday purchases.

I just want something that provides cashback for my large consumables; gas, groceries and resturants.

I second the AmEx vote, I haven’t had one complaint about it since I got the card back in 2005. My rate has never been above 7.5%, the two times that I’ve had questionable charges a dispute was set up and resolved in a matter of a couple of days, and I’ve gotten some decent “rewards” back from the card since I’ve had it, including over $500 in gift cards to Home Depot, and I really don’t use it a whole lot.
