I heard that since sprint is on a CDMA network, as well as verizon, it will use verizon towers to make calls if they can’t use their own. Meaning that anywhere verizon gets service… sprint does? is this true? ---

I have cingular right now and I’m planning on switching over to VZW, My contract is up in Feb and I get alot of overage charges on texting, and since I text everyone with VZW It’s the smarter thing to do, and all my friends never complain about service or anything Plus those new phones coming out next month are pretty nice. ---

For what this guy needs, it does work easily with the SIM. I’ve only swapped non-data phones with my SIM and it’s worked flawlessly. ---

No, no they don’t, I swap PDA phones every weekend and mine works just fine. The only data device that uses an IMEI is PC cards IIRC. ---

And one more thing, more often than not, there is a much higher content of GSM/WCDMA devices released than CDMA/CDMA2000 devices. Nokia does not release many (if any) CDMA phones, HTC (pocket PC devices) releases more WCDMA than CDMA2000 and I believe the Blackberry market has more WCDMA than CDMA2000 devices. ---

IMEIs are locked to numbers, if it is an unassigned IMEI, then you can swap sim cards and the number will follow the phone. However, the IMEI is assigned a number, it won’t change with the sim… ---

they have a separate plan called blackberry connect just for them, those are the only PDA phone cingular has that i’ve never used, so their IMEI’s may be locked but I swap windows mobile and nokia PDA’s and treo’s all the time, including ones that were previously on another account without a problem. the reason they want you to think they’re locked to numbers is cause I have a regular non-smartphone on my account listed, so I get $19.99 unlimited internet/1500 text messages with a PDA instead of $39.99 for just the internet. ---

Your main issue should be what provider the people you call and text most have. I switched to Verizon because most people I know use Verizon, and calling/texting is much cheaper this way. That, coupled with free picture messaging between us, makes for getting the most out of our service. Cingular treated us well for a good 10 years before that. ---

^^ yeah thats swaying my decision. My g/f who i talk to and txt the most by far just switched to sprint tho. which is why i was asking if sprint uses Verizon towers. EDIT - just did some research. Sprint phones will connect and roam on verizon towers. but since roaming is free anyhow, it’s like getting the same coverage area as verizon anyway. This makes me want to switch to sprint. since they have the CDMA SLVR L7c. Although i heard it’s not quite as good as the GSM one. ---

Customer service sucks, they don’t have coverage like cingular or VZW, website is a joke, you have to download texts(depending on phone), Voice quality is great though, but my room mate has never had decent coverage in WNY. I would stick with cingular or VZW After 7 years with nextel I just got a different carrier due to the fact that coverage has gone down the shitter, phones have gotten even more iffier since sprint bought them. ---

apparently sprint uses verizons towers when they can’t connect to their own. So i don’t see the problem there. i’m almost possitive that with the SLVR you dont have to download txts (although i could be wrong) ---
